Reviews of Rainbow Falls
"Not a lot of water off the falls right now, but still worth the hike! About 4 miles out and back from the trail head. Pretty strenuous hike, about 1200ft of elevation gain up the trail. Made it with my brother, mom and nephew (ages 34/57/10)"
"We hiked to Rainbow Falls on a warm November afternoon. The first mile is relatively flat along the Foothills Trail, but the path is rocky and my wife and I both stumbled a number of times. Once on the Rainbow Falls tail, the elevation starts to steadily rise. Final elevation gain is over 1200 ft. The trail is well maintained with many sections of stairs at various parts of the trail. The views were breaking with some Fall color still very apparent on the trees and ground. The falls are beautiful and is a wonderful reward for your effort! Remember to make your parking reservation in advance."
"Beautiful trail. Some climbing via roots and rocks. Overall very enjoyable."
"Hiked yesterday (6/28/22) with my family. 2 adults and 3 kiddos (7,7,9). There was a little complaining by my twins on the way up but overall they did fine. Trail was awesome. A lot of roots and rocks on trail so be mindful. View of waterfall was beautiful and exceeded expectations. Pictures just don't do it justice. We had lunch at the top on a boulder (get as close as you can to bottom of falls). Enjoyed the mist from the falls and the nice breeze. Definitely recommend this hike. John Gal Park is really well maintained and staff is very helpful and friendly. We went during the week so parking was fine but on the weekend or have holiday you have to reserve spots in advance because parking is limited. Best hike I've done in NC/SC area."
"A very nice, well maintained, and frequently used trail. Its rated as moderate but at times can be strenuous. A beautiful reward at the end when you see the waterfall. A spectacular and amazing view! If you get close the mist from the waterfall feels soooooo refreshing, especially after the hike to see it. Also, if you dare to get close enough prepare to get wet! Some folks had their small kids on this trail, but I feel if they're capable then great for them. However, i saw adults struggling on this trail so use your best judgment. Will visit this trail again!"
