John's Jump Falls
About the Business
John's Jump Falls is a hidden gem located in the Pisgah National Forest of North Carolina, just off Highway 281 in Sapphire. This 25-foot waterfall is a short distance from the road but is not well-marked, making it a peaceful and secluded spot for visitors to enjoy. The trail to the falls is a bit steep, so it may not be suitable for all hikers, but those who are up for the challenge will be rewarded with a beautiful natural wonder.
The falls are easily accessible, located about 4 miles south of Gorges State Park and 4 miles north of the South Carolina border. The trailhead is not marked, but can be found on the east side of the road just north of Whitewater Church Road. Visitors can park in the large grass area off the highway and make their way to the falls through the forest.
Once at the falls, visitors will be greeted by a shallow pool and a sandy shore, providing a peaceful setting to relax and take in the beauty of John's Jump Falls. The waterfall may have limited water flow depending on recent rainfall, but it is always a worthwhile stop for those exploring the area.
After enjoying the falls, visitors can safely hike back up the trail to the parking area. John's Jump Falls is a serene and picturesque spot in the North Carolina wilderness, perfect for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

"Beautiful hidden falls, a short way off 281 with a slightly hidden entrance there's a wide spot to pull off and park then follow a rock floor path into the woods. You will hear the water. It is pretty steep and could be slippery if wet but there are plenty of trees and branches to help you on the way down. Lots of mica glittering in the water too. Definitely worth it for the adventurous type and you'll probably be the only ones there!"
"Beautiful waterfall and a perfect day hang out spot. Steep hike but short. Make sure when you come to the trail with a bolder in the river that you continue left up the hill to make it all the way to the waterfall."
"Pull off just south of the curve on Whitewater Rd. See photo for where trail begins. Not a great trail, so get ready to crouch, bend, slither, down the hill to the view of the falls. Very short trail, so head on up and just north on the west side of the road visit D.E.W. Falls which are better."
"This is an awesome waterfall right off the road. It is a bit of a climb to get to it, but it only takes about 5-10 minutes to get to the base of the waterfall. The access isn’t marked very well, but follow the picture as well as beaten path and you shouldn’t have any issues. I would recommend taking a walking stick to help with the climb. Hope you enjoy it! It’s definitely worth it."
"We parked in the grassy area just south of where this is located after reading other reviews. There is a trail to get down there and it's a bit slick and steep in spots. We made it down to the water but couldn't get a clear view of the falls but we could hear them. Trees are over grown and block the views. Best to walk north from this area and go to the other fall across the road D.E.W. Falls or on the left if going north on the road. Much easier to get to and very pretty."
