Reviews of Sunset Rock- Highlands Cashiers Land Trust
"Great spot to watch the sunset. Avoid the rock moss and lichen ecology (i.e., don't step on it please). Might want to bring a small padded seat if you plan to sit for a while. 4x4 can drive to the top without issue, but probably only room for ~6 vehicles to park at the top and still get turned around."
"Great view of the surrounding area and of course the sunset on clear days! I recommend parking at the Highlands Nature Center unless you drive an off road vehicle. It's about a mile walk up the rough gravel Sunset Rd."
"Very nice view. Bring a jacket if it’s fall. Some people drive up, but only one car can go up or down at a time, so I’m not sure how that works if cars have to pass. Not a lot of opportunities to pull to the side. You definitely don’t need a lifted vehicle to drive up, but I would at least recommend mid size SUV. The was is pretty easy, but all up hill."
"Sunset Rock offers scenic Mountain View’s. Go prepared to relax for a while and take in the mountain air. It’s an easy hike on a gravel road with parking right across from the Highlands Nature Center."
"Beautiful views. Information about it says the walk to the top is short but it is not; however, there is very limited space at the top to park and the access road narrows and two cars cannot pass in several places. Compact cars would be fine, pack a picnic, bring a blanket and stay a while. Look at both views, go to the left for a short walk to a view of the mountains range, to the right is sunset rock."
