Reviews of Gahwa
"First time here and it was very simple and plain but that's what you should expect from a noodle shop. Menu is simple, noodles in bone broth or dry and rice dishes (a variety of clay pot). Best kimchi I've had in a long time and that's because it was not overly spicy. Totally palatable for my low spice meter. I liked it so much I asked for a second serving. The bone broth here is simply delicious, feeds your soul on a cold night. You add your own salt and pepper to taste, I prefer this concept so you can control the taste but the oxtail broth as your base is fantastic on its own."
"Stop by here every New Year's Day for the traditional ddukguk, but the place is known for the specialty dish, suhlungtang (bone broth soup). The interior is simple, austere, and inviting. The broth, served as base for most soups, is rich and flavorful, but it's important to keep in mind that it is not seasoned, so you'll want to add salt, pepper, and scallion to taste. And don't forget the complimentary kimchi - it's absolutely delicious and a perfect accompaniment to the soup, which I assume had people trying to take it home. Just be aware that the kimchi is for in-house consumption only - you won't be able to take it home with you!"
"Ga Hwa is known for their authentic Korean dishes. The menu is not big but everything is well-made. Service is prompt and courteous. We ordered: bibimbap (veggie and beef mixed rice), yoogaejung (spicy shredded beef soup), seafood pancake, rice cake and dumplings soup."
"I prefer Gahwa more than any Korean restaurants in Korean town. My hidden gem spot. The complimentary radish kimchi is just so good. Plz visit and try many dishes."
"As someone obsessed with seollongtang, I was excited to try Gahwa after reading online recommendations. The restaurant feels very mom-and-pop-ish and as if it has been in business for a long time/is family run. The service is quick and no-nonsense. They provided us with ssamjang, marinated jalapenos, napa kimchi, raw napa, and radish kimchi before the meal. I ordered the dogani-tang (Ox knee), and I seasoned it myself with the pepper and salt provided (which is pretty standard). With this dish, I felt like compared to other places I have been to they gave an average amount of meat. They gave less noodles than I was used to, which I personally don't mind. The soup is served with a bowl of rice. I think for this area, the seollongtang was great. Definitely one of the best that I've had in NY so far; However, I would say that I've had better before. I will definitely be coming back to try dishes like bibimbap in the future."
