Reviews of Bailey Mountain Preserve
"Loved this hike. really well marked trail. good elevation gain."
"Well maintained set of trails, including the yellow trail to the summit, which is an even ascent of 1000 feet over about 4.5 miles out and back. The preserved barns and farm buildings are fun to walk through to remind us of the past way of life."
"Bailey Mountain Preserve is a mountain preserve just outside Mars Hill NC. We hiked there with the Yancey County Humane Society shelter dogs to give some a much needed break from shelter life. It is NOT an off leash dog park contrary to what some believe. We took the yellow trail to the summit and back -a 4 miler with nice graded trails with steps where needed and distance markers every quarter mile. The switchbacks make it less steep until near the summit. Winter affords many views. There are several benches along the way as well as at the summit. There is a book to sign at the summit as well. Parking is adequate on a gravel lot with a porta john close by. This is a nice day trip hike from Asheville, Burnsville or Johnson City TN"
"The beautifully maintained yellow trail will take you to the summit; the last .15 miles is steep. Though there is no view at the summit you can feel the calm energy in this place. There is a nice vantage point on top of a large rock most of the way up where you can see the surrounding hills through the trees. The locals’ love of this land shines through if you pass them on the trail; there were several genuine “hope you enjoy your hike” wishes."
"Fun hike! Really well marked with side trails/confusing turns blocked off, keeping you on trail. We were looking for something a little quieter, and this was perfect - didn’t see anyone!! Beautiful scenery and we peeped a deer right as we started too. Didn’t head the whole way up as it was a bit too icy with the pups, but enjoyed that there was a nice view even if you don’t make it all the way!"
