Reviews of Royal Coach Diner
"Not your typical diner. They offer Caribbean, Latin, Italian and traditional American cuisine with their own special spin. Like the seafood pot pie, jerked kingfish , or the lamb shank."
"I went with my husband yesterday. Granted it was the day before New years Eve, however, that doesn’t excuse dirty utensils. It was just as cold inside the diner as it was outside. The server was nice but I think he was tired so he had low energy. He kept forgetting things in our order. The lettuce for my burger had brown patches. The salmon burger didn’t have flavor. The seat was dirty. I had to clean it before I sat down. The place was calm but it was late. I wouldn’t refer anyone there or go back. The best thing I had was the tostones."
"My first time dining here was such a great experience, I highly recommend it! My family and I came in for dinner and it was worth what we spent. I got the oxtail platter and it was so mouth-wateringly delicious that whenever I go back that will be my go to. My parents got the rib eye steak and they loved it as well. The waitress was super nice and patient while we looked over the menu and decided what to order. The food tasted fresh and was nice and hot so you knew it hadn’t been sitting in the kitchen all day. Honestly I couldn’t recommend this place enough!"
"Royal Coach has been a staple diner in the Bronx for many years (not anymore). However, with the recent overhaul and change in management, they changed a community's love to a community's gripe. First, let's talk about the good: The facility has been completely renovated with new chairs, booths, dishes, televisions, everything. The atmosphere is always updated to match the season (now celebrating Christmas), and the staff are ridiculously friendly. You can always count on receiving good food for your money and the facility has free parking. Lastly, you can reserve a hall if you are bringing a huge party to dine with. Unfortunately, that is where the good ends, now comes the bad: For a diner in the Bronx, the prices are astronomical. A Philly cheese steak is 17 dollars plus tax. Clearly they are passing on all the renovation costs to their customers. Another negative is the wait time. Everything, from the time you come in, to the time you order, when you get the food and when you get the check, all requires a 5-20 minute wait each! Please note, I went at night when there were 3 other customers in the diner and plenty of staff, yet everything was a 5-20 minute wait. My entire stay excluding paying for my meal, eating and restroom breaks was over 50 minutes. Please note, I only ordered a Philly cheese turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries (my guest got a cheeseburger). Lastly, the chef got every order wrong. I ordered my sandwich on a hero and got it on a roll. My guest ordered a cheeseburger with cheddar and got a turkey burger with swiss and onion rings (huh, lol)?!?! Overall, I can't recommend this diner with all of the options that are available in the Bronx for cheaper prices, faster service, better tasting food, and the classic diner atmosphere."
"My mother and I came on a Thursday about 5pm. It was not crowded. We were seated right away. The hostess was attentive and friendly. I have to say when the ownership changed years ago, the food went downhill. But I guess they changed the cook or something because the food this time was a beautiful surprise. Came out right away and delivered by the chef or line cook not sure but that was a nice touch. Food was flavorful and plentiful. I have no complaints about that. The music was great. Felt relaxing and comfy while dining. However the service was less than desirable. Our server Joe was not attentive at all. He came and greeted us right away with 2 glasses of water and asked do you need a few minutes. We said 2 minutes but asked for lemon for the water. 7 minutes later he is standing at the counter just looking around. I had to flag him down to say we are ready. After we ordered our food he left to make our drink. I guess he forgot the lemon. we had to ask another server. The drink was awful. I saw Joe looking at paper I guess to make it. Too much grenadine. He was not stingy with the tequila so I give him that credit. But it was not a well mixed drink. Tasted like sweet medicine. We finished eating and we are just sitting. Joe was around but didn’t come back to check on us until we asked another server for take out trays. Once we packed up the food again we just sat. You would think he’d ask would you like anything else or if we were ready for the check. Nope I had to flag him down for the check. This would have been a 5 star visit but the service was not good. My review is more like 3.5 but 1 star off for service and 1/2 star off for that drink. But I will be back for more food."
