Burry Park
About the Business
Burry Park, located at 131 Cargill Way in Hartsville, South Carolina, is a beautiful park and tourist attraction that offers a serene green space for visitors to enjoy. The park has been the location for various events, including the city's Screen on the Green free movie series. Formerly the site of the Cargill Oil Mill, Burry Park has been transformed into a peaceful oasis for both locals and tourists to relax and unwind.
One of the main attractions at Burry Park is the Hartsville Veteran's Memorial and Veteran's Walk. The memorial pays tribute to the veterans who served in the United States during the major conflicts of the 20th century, with detailed bronze monuments representing each conflict. The memorial also features black granite plaques honoring 420 veterans from Darlington County, showcasing their names, branch of service, and dates of service.
The Veteran's Walk, lined with 32 Okame cherry trees, connects the memorial to South Fifth Street and provides a peaceful stroll for visitors to reflect and pay their respects. The bas relief monuments at the memorial were sculpted by Hartsville native Charlie Pate, who is a graduate of the Ringling School of Art in Florida. Charlie's son Charles also assisted in creating and fitting the structure, adding a personal touch to this important tribute to our nation's veterans.

"Had a great time at the Happy Little Fun Run hosted by Black Creek Arts Council!"
"My favorite part of Burry Park is the war memorial. Very well done."
"I attended a tribute to an amazing gentlemen who left all of us last month. But he left us with an amazing memorial to all of the veterans who have given so much. Thank you, Mr. Warner Hopkins DeHart for your dedication to complete the task and for your service to all of us in the Air Force. You were truly a Godsend to all the veterans you helped!"
"Nice park with pretty flowers, seating, sculpture honoring veterans, rest room and platform for performances. A couple of exercise stations and book lending kiosk."
"It is a lovely little park in downtown Hartsville. It is fairly peaceful and I have many cherished memories from here."
