Reviews of Maroon Girl Jamaican Cuisine
"I was in the area and decided to stop by this amazing restaurant. First off let me start by Saying the minute we walked in the restaurant, we were greeted mannerly. We ordered oxtail, rice peas, cabbage, plantain. The goat head soup was my favorite. So favorable ughhhhh I asked them to take the pot home lol . But if you’re ever in the area please stop by and try. I can Guarantee they will not disappoint. Thank you guys so much. Wait did I mention the chef came out and introduce himself. Just awesome !!!"
"Cannot say enough good things about this place! Starting with the food: we had oxtail with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains. The oxtail was so tender and flavorful, and together with the sides it was a delicious meal. We split a small order of Ackee and saltfish, on a bed of white rice with cabbage and plantains. Again, the flavors were awesome and I felt like the saltiness did not overpower the dish. Finally, I had a spicy beef patty and coco bread. The coco bread was so soft and fluffy, and the patty was deliciously spicy. Complimenting all this was the sorrel, which I had with me the rest of the day. It was so refreshing but has a bite of ginger to keep it interesting. To-go, we got an order of black cake, which was a great pair to some red wine later in the day. Beyond the food, I enjoyed talking to the owner, who told me some histories of Jamaica and about her own travels. Everyone there was so friendly, and you can really tell it is a community-oriented spot. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!"
"This place is the real deal. The proprietors are kind and the food is done up well. Jamaican home cooking. Mom and Pop place. I was super surprised and pleased to discover it when traveling in the area. Looked up the poem that it's named after when I got home. It's a good one too! I feel lucky that I stopped in on the way to the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. They even gave me some scotch bonnets to take home since they don't sell them where I live. Mac and Cheese bake is divine. Meat is moist and juicy. Meat pies are flaky and flavorful!"
