"Such lovely service and way better than the experiences I've had at big city lodgings. A big fridge and a microwave, clean, and the staff was all adorable and great. We got locked out of the room because of a sneaky inside door guard with a mind of its own and they took care of it with kindness and quickness! Even though it seemed to involve breaking in a bit. It was 6 mins from everywhere we needed to be. With a beautiful view of the St. Lawrence and Canada from the room."
"I didn't stay in the inn, so this review is based on an experience at a group event. There is a lot of parking, a lot of it is dirt/gravel. Not great when wearing heels. The views, from the meeting room, across the St. Lawrence River are stunning. I don't know how the views are from the rest of the dining areas. Now, the bartender continued a conversation with the only other couple at the bar. I was left standing there... Before I go on, I would go back to try the restaurant. Sometimes a group meal doesn't reflect the best food experience. Onion soup was the first course. There was little in the way of caramelized onions, the cheese was a rubbery sank to the bottom. The bread was mush. The salad was the highlight of the meal. Crisp greens, large pieces of accenting vegetables and a Parmesan dressing that wasn't overwhelming. There were 4 choices for entrees. No one at my table had the chicken. The seafood platter didn't look bad, but without trying it, I could not address the seasoning or cooking. The prime rib looks like it was a great choice for the meat lovers. Those were some big slabs of meat. I hope people got to specify their choice for doneness I had the portobello option. It was served on a bed of grain. That was good, but the glaze on the mushroom was too sweet. I used the sour cream to dilute and balance the sweet. Dessert seemed to be a commercially made sheet cake. Some of the food was cold. Rather than have several serving stations around the room, all the trays were at the bar, so the servers had to take many trips through the dining room to serve everyone."
"Great spot just outside of town. Rooms are spacious and good quality. Pool facilities are also good, and the gym is better than you typically see. The best spot is the deck area on the river - beautiful spot to watch the ships go by."
"The buildings and outside grounds are well maintained. The original motel building has balcony rooms that are very large, and the balconies are also large. We were very surprised with how large they were. The other building was built more recently, has some different size rooms, some of those rooms have small balconies facing the lawn and water, there is no parking lot in front of those rooms. The included self-service breakfast offered many hot and cold breakfast choices. The breakfast hours were long enough to have an early or late breakfast. The breakfast area is open every morning, it is a separate room in the same building with the restaurant. There is a sidewalk in front of the building next to the parking lot that connects with the guest buildings next door. There is a large lawn area of several acres with the swimming pool area, lawn chairs and outdoor games. There is a tiered deck by the waterfront with plenty of seating and tables. We met some other guests at the waterfront deck, it was a nice place to enjoy the view of the passing ships and gathering with family and friends. We also enjoyed using the kayaks and paddle boards, free for guests to sign out at the front desk. The river is very clean, there is a small beach area to launch the boats, it is easy to wade into the water, water is shallow there and you could swim also. We had dinner at the restaurant on Saturday night, it is closed on Sunday and Monday. We ate outside on the patio, it was a pleasant place to have dinner, enjoyed being outside with the flowers blooming and a view of the river. The food and the service were good. There is also a large indoor seating area and bar. There was a man performing music in the restaurant when we were there. We were very happy that we decided to stay at the Gran View Inn. It was very pleasant and relaxing, our family had a great time, we would stay there again."
"We stayed at the Inn, with many members of our family, taking a block of rooms. The rooms are tired, and in serious need of updating. You need to have a fan to help circulate the A/C around the room, because it is extremely old and it needs all the help it can get. Lucky for us, hubby sleeps with a fan on, so that helped a lot. On the balcony over looking the river. There were HUGE cobwebs on top of huge cobwebs. These should be swept down weekly. The property it is on, is amazing. The views are fantastic. Very relaxing. The kids enjoyed the pool, we all gathered around the fire pit at the end of the day. Breakfast in the morning was okay. Staff was nice and polite when we did need something."
