Reviews of Lea-Hutaff Island
"Our new favorite place in the area. The island is only accessible by boat. Places like this are a rare gem. The beach is almost untouched. No crowds. Lots of shells. The island is also a bird sanctuary, which is awesome."
"Only accessible by boat - a nice boat ride to Lea-Hutaff Island is a reap treat. Bring chairs and supplies to camp overnight, have a cookout or enjoy endless beaches with few visitors. Dog friendly too haha. Hope to see you here sometime. Both the ocean side and marsh side are fantastic and beautiful scenery."
"Unspoiled barrier island accessible only by boat. Beautiful beaches."
"Awesome place to visit, but you can only get there by boat. Seclusion is nice though, since very little to none of the summer tourists make it here."
"Been coming here by boat/raft since 1977 from Topsail island. What a difference between now and then on the north end (erosion), and the disappearance of Old Topsail Inlet (we used to swim across it going southward toward Figure 8). I wonder what happened to the old sound-side on the south end (last saw it sometime in the late 90s). The house on the north end (built sometime in the mid-late 80s) used to be far back in the dunes. Now it's almost about to get swept away into the ocean! Very nice and quiet. Love the beach and relative lack of people. Not to mention the wonderful bird-watching and plethora of unmolested shells (including full sand dollars) Hope it stays that way forever!"
