"Meritage Homes @ Anniston Chase offers closing incentives if you use Costner Law. The company handling of my closing was professional but I didn’t like that I was told that my closing fees were rounded up. Maybe, this is normal in the mortgage business but it seemed greedy and deceitful to me. Also, the closing paperwork provided by the mortgage company that asks you to acknowledge why you chose the closing attorney did not list Costner as one of the companies recommended by Meritage. Based on my paperwork, it would appear that I chose Costner on my own but that’s not the case. Using them was the only way for me to get the closing incentive."
"My escrow was short 2400 now I am left with a 200 dollar more a month payment for a year to catch up. The escrow had -10 cents in it when I closed. The attorney could have mentioned that and said or suggested to put some money into the escrow atleast 1000. New homes are based on land value and will obviously be more then 10 cents needed to be In escrow. Hire your own attorney to go in there with you"
"Appointment was at 1pm and was not seen until almost 2pm. We did not receive final numbers until minutes before closing and had to wait hours for the wire to be processed. As a result we waited for our keys! Staff seemed rushed and annoyed and no one answered the phone. Unfortunately our builders used them so we had no choice. I can see why they have 1 or 2 stars."
"They put the wrong payoff on our closing documents and then submitted the wrong paperwork to the mortgage company AFTER having me sign a POA to fix the paperwork. They never filed the POA and never fixed the documents. Instead they gave a very large sum of money that I didn’t owe to the mortgage company. I’ve had to wait over a month to get my money back. In the meantime they refused to refund my closing cost with one of their managers telling us it wasn’t that big of deal. Don’t ever use them."
"Messed up closing documents and delayed closing 7 days. Poor communication to say the least. Thier work on my deal goes beyond mere incompetence. I want to be much more harsh in this review but I won't call out specific names. If you want a trouble free quick closing for real estate, go elsewhere"
