Reviews of High Mountain Expeditions
"I did my research and decided to go with the Watauga River adventure since my 9 year old & myself have never been white water rafting before. We had an excellent experience! The staff made the trip even better! They were fun, had lots of jokes, and informational about other activities in the area as well! It's a rafting activity, EXPECT to get wet!! Fun was had by all and we will be back!"
"Okay, so I see a lot of mixed reviews on this and a ton are upset that this trip was not what they expected. So I am posting my review and my experience to clear things up. Let’s start with this. If you’re reading reviews in hopes to hear that this trip is going to be some crazy crazy upper Gully or New River Gorge damn release weekend in September in WV. This trip is not for you. this trip is not hardcore. However, this trip was still a blast! the staff does an amazing job at entertaining the bus. Morgan, who was our photographer was also the bus comedian. She was informative on the 45 minute bus ride to the drop off destination and was also very funny! Jesse, he was the bus driver and also very fun and down to earth. My boats guide was Keyance and he was amazing and funny! Because this trip is not such a hardcore rafting trip, the staff does fun games, jumping rock, and water guns to bring in a good spirit. I will say, the best part of the trip was having pirate water gun fights with the other boats and just getting to know the neighbors on the raft! This is an extremely kid friendly and kid safe adventure. We had a couple of 5-8 year olds on this trip."
"We had a really good time on the Nolichucky. We did the Class 3-5 level rapids and it was very doable and fun even for someone like me who never rafted. I would recommend doing the highest class of rapids that you can and I think anyone can physically do it. I did not fall out of the boat once, but I did jump in to swim and the water felt nice. Curt was our guide and he was great. It is a toss up who is in your boat, but we lucked out and got a fun boat. The rafting was cool and we saw some really beautiful views. For the drive from the shop, it is not close to Banner Elk (it is in Tennessee), but they try hard to make the bus ride fun."
"Great fun on the family friendly (only small, fairly timid rapids) Watauga River. Opportunity to jump 15 feet into the water. Beautiful scenery. Great staff on the raft (Landon). Paired with a very nice family. Staff will take great photos. Make sure to buy the photos on your return - if you buy them online, it's very expensive. Had some trouble getting there on time, but the cooperative staff worked with me so we could drive directly to the put in location. Slow start to get in the river."
"Our son and family joined my wife and myself on the New River. We enjoyed a very nice float trip that went between 2-3 miles and lasted just over 2 hours. Water was very gentle and not deep. Our 7 and 9 year old granddaughters loved it!!"
