Reviews of Thorp and Clarke, PA
"I had a closing with this office. My mortgage company did all the paperwork and sent it in. I Bank transfer of the closing fund to their office. On closing day I showed up 40 mins early. My closing was scheduled for 10am. When I got there with my agent we were told that they didn’t receive the closing documents because the had a power outage the day prior and closed the office early. I called the mortgage company and they resent the paperwork then I was told they had to recalculate the funds. When I finally sat down to close around 12:30. The attorney got up twice because he kept saying the funds part of the paperwork did not let ok right. We closed and I was told I needed additional funds of over $1,500 in addition to what I had already paid in order to get the keys. I gave up the funds. But a few weeks later my mortgage company sent me closing disclosure to sign. The additional funds I had to pay was not included. After an investigation it was discovered the additional funds was erroneously collected and refunded back to me. How many people does this happen to? What happens to funds collected erroneously that is never discovered. Attorney fees are a set rate based on State you live in. Why do they need to recalculate funds? Mortgage companies deals with the funding and paperwork. Hopefully this was a mistake and not an ongoing scam."
"0 out of 5. My wife and I were trying to close on a house from out of state and they claimed they didn't know which can't be since everyone else knew. But the week of closing, we were told that the attorney who was supposed to do the closing for us had taken vacation, which wouldn't be a big deal if they had a competent fill in for her. No one in either party (seller or buyer) knew what was happening until our appointment for closing had already passed. This firm was terrible at communicating. Kudos to the girl who filled in though, because I'm pretty sure she wasn't mentally prepared for what was being thrusted at her. But MAYBE, if your firm can't operate or communicate efficiently or effectively when a single person takes vacation, then maybe that means you need more staff. On top of it all, they had such a bad reputation, that when the seller for my house found out who we were going through, they wanted to back out of the contract because he refused to ever work with them again, which should say something."
"Unfortunately, it was a long wait we did (8 months) just to have this office process or do something on our paperwork. It was too fast for them to collect the legal fees then did nothing to go forward, It took them months to finally drafted a short and incorrect information in order to file our case. We had to correct them. Again, we didn't hear anything from them after that. We kept calling the office, sent emails, barely get a response and no luck to get hold of anyone in charge by phone just to tell us the status of our case. So, we decided to withdraw our application and sent them an email to get our money back. No response for a month, Finally they responded but we think they over charge us for doing nothing just like the very first time we paid them for retainer fee. Just be careful and be smart dealing with this office. They are really good of what they do. Unprofessional!!!"
"If you are looking for a totally unreliable office in Guardianships, welcome you have come to the right place if you want to have their staff and attorney not respond to email or calls. They are pathetic office from my experience I paid $4,150 for a piece of paper for guardianship and from that time on no help. I would never use them for any legal matter. They leave you hanging high and dry. But quick to take $4,150."
"This law office is very unprofessional and staff needs additional or more comprehensive training. I called to check on the status of a check from the sale of a home and spoke to a woman named Debra. First, she put me on hold for 15 minutes. I had to call back because the system made me leave a voicemail after that long. I called back and spoke to the same woman, she was very rude and wouldn’t give me any information because she said she could not verify who I was. I offered to verify my social, the property address, our names and phone numbers. She finally agreed to give me some information but nothing that was helpful or that answered my questions. She had to repeatedly ask if she was allowed to give the information i was asking for. If staff answering the phones do not understand the information they are allowed to give, they are not qualified and do not have the proper knowledge to adequately help clients. She then blamed the problem on both my realtor and I, saying we kept changing the method of delivery for the proceeds and provided incorrect account information. When we first went in, we filled out paperwork to have the money wired to our account. Later they told our realtor that they do not wire funds. So we had to fill out additional paperwork for a check to be sent to us. A day after closing, when calling to check the status of our funds, I found out it was wired. In addition, on the day of closing, they had no documents ready when we went in to sign. The front office staff was extremely unprofessional, talking across the room to ask coworkers if they had ever completed paperwork for us before. The staff said they had never heard our name before when in fact we had been in weeks prior to sign documents. This does not give me much confidence in their ability to complete paperwork properly."
