"I am a property owner. When re-negotiating a new lease with my tenants, I asked Shearer to increase and collect two month’s security deposit…which is indeed what THEY WROTE into the new lease. When the tenants moved out and I discovered they had destroyed carpets, hardwood floors, walls, etc., I was at least consoled by my belief that I had two month’s deposit (which wouldn’t come close to paying for the damage). Then I saw Shearer’s true colors - as they had never fulfilled their agency responsibilities to collect the full security deposit AND then refused to bear the cost of THEIR mistake by paying me the security deposit they had written into the lease and signed. Add to this that they did not do a proper inspection of the property before writing a new lease with a terrible tenant. I accept that mistakes happen. But this company did not accept their responsibility for their mistake by paying me the deposit money they had written into a formal, signed lease agreement, but failed to collect. I would never trust or work with these people. Any response from the property manager disputing the amount of the deposit would be insincere since it is clearly written as going from one month in the first lease to two months in the second lease. If this hadn’t been the agreed security deposit then they themselves wouldn’t have made the change."

"I've rented through Shearer Realty, Inc property management for more than two years. I've only met Aubrey in person, but almost feel as if I've met the entire family. The Shearer family is always professional, but also quite personable. Dave and Andrew run their family owned company as if they are aware of the fact that it is their name on the building, and thus their family legacy they are preserving. Their employee, Dixie, she has been dipped in 24k gold. I wish I could pick her up, and take her with me through every customer service concern. It is not often in the city of Charlotte that property management companies treat tenants like human beings, let alone like rent paying adults. Dixie is always professional, but you are also left feeling this sense of camaraderie. Again, the woman is truly golden. I am grateful she works for Shearer Reality. My experience has been a positive one. I would recommend this rental management company to any who ask. They've done great by me!"
