Reviews of Life Door Rentals
"They changed the payment method to one that now requires a transaction fee on each payment of $3-$10 where as the original method did not with a connected bank account. I requested to pay by literally any other method (cash, check, PayPal, by mail, in person, anything) and am being told that any other method will be refused/returned. Payment method was not mentioned in my lease agreement and it seems I am getting the "corporate" treatment where no conversation can be had with my property manager and it's like a game of telephone with assistants. The property manager refuses to call me and her phone goes straight to voicemail and the voicemail is full when I attempt to call her to resolve. Don't be fooled by their "family minded" rhetoric as they have no intention to treat you like a human being."
"Since buying out my property from my previous landlord, they haven't completed a single maintenance request in the 3-4 months since. Luckily it's nothing that has made my place unlivable, but I fear the day when something major happens and 3+ months pass without them doing anything but collect rent, which is automated so you can't really count that as them doing something. (Update 1/5/24) Finally got a few things taken care of (replacement dishwasher, roaches sprayed, etc). Still waiting on electrical repairs, cleaning the gutters and black mold growing on the outside, and a few other things. Seeing as how I reported these three months ago I might just have to do things myself. (Update 2/1/24) Finally got maintenance to come and fix the electrical issues. They also made an attempt to "perfectly clean" the a/c unit but they did not do the best job."
"Had a very positive rental experience with Life Door, rented for 3 months. Response was always quick and attentive. The home was clean and quite as they described. Management was very professional, and helped with my needs coming from another State. Would highly recommend them for house sharing."
"I’ve contemplated on whether completing this survey based around other affiliation with the owner of LifeDoor. Having lived with the owner years ago, I knew and understood his expectations. When I moved back to Charlotte, I stayed back with his co-living company. I trusted the owner and didn’t think that maybe he had hired others to govern his business and draw the clientele to provide the services and revenue to uphold the company. There has been a lot of things that I’ve liked about LD and a lot of things I didn’t like. I enjoyed being able to live in a high priced city without having to pay the high priced dollar amount because it isn’t cheap to live in Charlotte, NC. However, the management he has governing and running his business isn’t it. The property manager (who at respect I will not disclose their name) is only helpful when it benefits them. Multiple requests were made to resolve various issues surrounding housing needs, tenant violations, and even maintenance requests would be submitted to no avail. As someone that lived on various properties, there was an instance where a tenant was caught smoking marijuana and in the contact illegal substance is strictly forbidden. In addition, the home was also in a HOA (thankfully no neighbors reported the smell because it was strong, could be smelled from the drive way outside… literally) so it made things worse, the property manager was supposed to terminate the tenant according to the lease contract but informed the entire house that WE were supposed to make the decision on whether someone was kicked out or not. For 1: We shouldn’t be making these decisions when we aren’t paid to do so For 2: The property manager should have abided by the leasing contract Now this is but one of many issues that arose. In addition to that, the property manager would not regulate proper maintenance orders. To the point that I personally had to spend my own money to provide air filters for my house due to the one in my house being black (that takes longer than 3 months to accumulate), I also had my partner the night go with me to Lowe’s because he needed to return things so why not just buy the filters to instead of breathing in dirty air. Since I knew the kind of standards the owner expected, I will flat out say that I would tell the property manager that I would report them for not doing anything at all. It got to the point I had to go through the second organization that the owner and I are both apart of in order to report the property manager because it had to be discreet or at least at that time. Also, I was the one that came up with having house managers due to a previous situation at a house I was living at and then moved to another home for my sanity. The property manager gave me no credit despite it being my idea. I bring this up because the old maintenance guy told me as I left a managers meeting early that I needed to keep issues between him and this property manager and not go above them. I played it off as if I didn’t know anything because he was in the wrong to approach me. This is also the same individual that who degraded employees of LD and various people up the corporate ladder. There was a recent bad storm that knocked a tree down, it had remained there nearly a month and still no one came to remove the huge thing prior to my departure. Lastly, the management will give push back when providing essentials that LD provides to their tenants because people tend to steal things. I understand the desire to not want to provide but making others pay for things that they didn’t do is sad. Also, for the record for the company to buy a $60-$70 vacuum is not an expensive purchase despite being told so. All-in-all, the owner, his wife, and I go way back before they were engaged and I love them to pieces. Some of the two most humble and sweet individuals. However, I hope they do read this and that they are aware that while I enjoyed staying with them, the experience was not well because of the management they have in place. People will deceive to gain someone personal."
"This was the worst experience for me. I was given the impression that life door was for business professionals living in a safe and clean environment but that was not the case for me. It was not safe, clean, or business professionals living in the house I lived in. We had bug problems, maintenance issues, residents smoking, kitchen was never clean and trash always piled up, residents talking loud, playing loud music, setting the fire alarm off while cooking and I am working from home, which caused issues waiting my boss able to hear background noise which I was suppose to be clear of. I bought this to life door attention several of times and all they did was send a text out instead handling the issue at hand. All they care about is collecting rent and not making sure their properties are good. Also I was asked to be house manager and the agreement I was sent they did not even stick to that I had to practically keep texting them about my money and finally two months later I was paid and the gift card she gave me didn’t even work and she was suppose to get me a new after waiting two months for my gift card the issue never got resolved. I could say more and post pictures and videos but I will save that for a lawyer."
