Reviews of Seven Star Kung Fu Academy
"We found Seven Star by chance. Our elementary aged children all enjoy their classes with Chris and CJ- they are taught integral skills that balance physical health and emotional well being . The lessons on respect for self and others are constantly emphasized. Leslie has been an amazing part of the management and after school care- not to mention, the scrumptious baked goods that she creates for Sari Sari. Chris and Leslie are friendly and professional. We recommend their classes and after school programming to anyone. Children are grouped by age ranges and train to increase knowledge and skills. Update: Our youngest chose to have his birthday party at the kwoon and he has given a 10 out 5 stars⭐️ Cupcakes by Sari Sari, kung fu class and Nerf battle made this a great day."
"To David Chin: I left a review on Chris Heintzmans Google maps: Not recommended for service members. The reply from my downvote was "gotta love a hater" can't hate someone you've never trained with, the lowest rating possible was for refusing training. Some people train for competition, others for fun and fitness, I train to help save my life, because I've been in those situations and had no other choice. If you're in the service and looking for something practical skip this place, the moment I used the word "practical" the owner was trying to argue, it took me time half way through to realize that I was being disrespectfully accused of being ignorant for wanting to learn something new, they also reject private classes. As someone who has studied the effects of the cultural revolution in China, studied Chinese history and Buddhism/Daoism at University, and has helped report to law enforcement crime and abuse in South Asia, I have always been respectful of the cultural aspect of martial arts and their heritage. Personally, I'm only interested in protecting myself and helping others protect themselves, I'm too focused on that to hate, but I will certainly point this out to other service members who are looking for a serious education in self defense and unarmed combat. Stay safe, and don't be afraid to speak the truth. This was my review on Chris's page. I arrived to his school with an open mind, eager to train myself for serious purpose of self defense and preparation for enlistment. I was curious about Tibetan hop far because of my respect and studies if Buddhism and Daoism at University. I've also made it one of my service duties to help impoverished areas in South Asia. In the past I've reported conflict and abuse in those areas and I've considered being deployed there (as infantry). I am sending this message to you today only to inform you that I have no disrespect or hate for you or your martial art. It is not possible to hate something that someone else has denied training to you about. My low ranking vote towards Chris is for his behavior and response not towards your martial art. All the best to you and your school, I just thought you should know that I stand by my decision to downvote and that it is based on experience not hate, as Chris would like to say. I have no interest in working with Chris but I do look out for other service members and leave public reviews so they avoid the hassle and disappointment."
"Went in for a trial sanda class--which was completely outside of my comfort zone--and was blown away by the amount of support and encouragement not only from the instructor, but from the more experienced students in the class as well. I've always been a fan of martial arts, but have been intimidated to even set foot in a gym for fear of being judged. I have zero experience and these folks made me feel welcomed and comfortable enough to punch and kick a bag without being afraid to look like an idiot. I ended up learning a lot and felt great at the end of the session. HIGHLY recommend this place if you are like me and looking for a supportive gym to teach you how to kill a man with your bare hands."
"Chris, Leslie and Jolyn are amazing. They drive us all to do the best we can. I feel accomplished at the end of every session. After a year of their kickboxing cardio classes I feel so much stronger and look forward to the next class. Classes are led with a great mix of serious coaching and humor , if I could give them more than 5 stars, I would."
"Great location! Even greater training. The Martial Art training is experienced, authentic and practical, while the cultural immersion aspects are genuinely awesome! I've known the instructors and some of the students for over a decade and the versatility of services provided has grown over the years and locations to culminate in this new training center. From traditional Kung Fu to competition preparation, after school programs, summer camps, seminars, fitness classes, performance troupe and more---this is a true academy of learning, expression and personal growth! I think what I love most though, is the family feel. The owner and Sifu, Chris Heintzman is like a father figure to all who come dedicate themselves to making his "Kwoon" a part of their journey. Through disciplined instruction, sage advice and down to earth, relatable persona, he has truly changed lives with his life's work. I encourage all to come try it for themselves and see if doesn't capture hearts and minds like it has done for years past and will for many more to come"
