Wilcox Skating 6880 U.S. 421, Vilas, NC 28692

"Me and my family are big time into skating and since we live in mountain city, it's closer to go there. I skated here regularly for roughly 4 months, cause the drive to and from Bristol was annoying. The floor is so slick, like there's no polyurethane on the floor, there's humps in the floor which I've seen has caused people to fall. They make spectators pay the same fee as normal skaters. Tina is very friendly, but when brought up the problems, she will agree but not do anything about them. The skate guards are jerks and will not respect people when they are injured and rarely check on them. I was extremely upset when someone rammed me when they were coming from the wrong direction and I was explaining the situation to one of my friends and one of the skate guards actually CUSSED ME OUT??? The place is very dangerous and not safe for kids at all and the saddest thing is the REGULARS that have been called down many times are the most dangerous but the owners refuse to kick anyone out or punish anyone. The music selection isn't bad but it's not very good. I haven't been there in a while so it may have changed, but I highly doubt it. I've skated in Bristol ever since. Not a safe family place and definitely not a place for serious skaters. The environment is mostly full of rude people and teenagers that fast skate during couple skate songs, and yet the owners still refuse to do anything about it. I've gotten seriously injured once at this place and yet the guards refused to check on me. The people that were checking on me were my ex girlfriend, her dad, and my parents. Definitely be careful if you ever even think of going there"

"I love it here. I’m from the area and learned how to skate here.The staff are amazing, the rink is a good size but has a few bumpy spots but they’re fun and easy to go over. The bathrooms don’t have looks witch isn’t ideal but I still love it here. The party area is great for birthdays and has plenty of tables/chairs.The game area isn’t super big but it’s still fun. There’s a referee on the rink at all times and is super nice. They don’t have many food options except chips and soda so I would bring a snack and a water bottle. Over all it’s a great place especially for kids."

"Great place to skate especially if you have kids. The staff are friendly and the price is affordable. Snack bar is lacking many options so if you are wanting to eat bring a snack if you don't want chips and soda. If you have younger kids be aware that Friday nights often have a lot of grade school kids without their parents so it can be stressful to navigate around loud middle and high schoolers. The staff is attentive and was good at calling out kids who were not being respectful however so kids were not running a muck."

"A bit of help from the front office lady would have been so appreciated tonight. I was in severe distress and desperately needed a restroom. Due to a truck running off the road at Beech Mt., my family was redirected on a very long route on Buckeye Rd. We are not from the area and could not find a place I could use a restroom. We finally saw Skateworld was open. I tried to explain but the lady at the front window in the office sent me away with directions to a gas station another mile and a half away. I am 52 years old and was in tears. Lady, that was just mean spirited. Plain and simple."

"Was very excited to come skate here. It's the closest skate rink to me at almost an hour drive away. I made sure to check online that the place was open. Drove all the way here to find it closed. I called from the parking lot and was sent to a message saying the place opened at 7pm (instead of 4pm like it sates online). As I was doing so a woman drove up to open the parking lot. I asked her what time the place opened and she said 7. She was pretty dismissive of me when I told her the time said differently online. I'm pretty disappointed as my plans for the day are pretty much ruined and I've wasted a ton of money on gas for nothing. Will be happy to remove this review when the hours are correct and I've gotten the chance to have a positive experience here."
