"SUMMER SUBLEASERS BEWARE!! did you know that when the people before you move out, they are allowed to not clean their apartment and then it becomes your problem and you can get charged? the people in my apartment before me still had a christmas tree in the living room that me, someone who subleased for 2 months, was now in charge of. while the price, gym, and pool was amazing in the summer time, i would be cautious before you sign that sublease. oh, and don’t even bother asking for summer parking. you wont get it AND your car will get broken into inside of the parking garage anyways. better off driving around a few times to get street parking"
"Don't live here. After I moved out, they charged me for random "utility fees" that were supposed to be included in the price of rent, per the living agreement. Trash is constantly overflowing from the dumpsters into the parking area, the "security" cars don't do anything, and my bedroom door didn't even lock properly. Despite several maintenance requests, they never fixed my door and didn't follow up with what was wrong."
"I lived here 2021-2023While the complex is convenient due to the close proximity to campus, the rest of the experience of living in University Crossings leaves much to be desired. Some of the staff are nice, including the maintenance, but the amenities look pretty just at the leasing office to keep up appearances. List of complaints and details below for reference: - The apartment rooms are poorly ventilated. As I understand it, the air conditioning flows in a cycle, starting from the room closest to the machine, so if you happen to live at the end of that cycle, chances are you’re SOL. This is exactly what happened with my room; you could feel an actual temperature change walking in and out. - The swimming pool is disgusting most of the time, covered in algae and littered with floating dead bugs. I once found a dead rat in the corner of the pool while I was swimming, and it took the office days to do a deep clean. - The leasing office will try to entice you to leave positive reviews in order to win a raffle. Do not fall for it. - Security is loose at best. Many of the complaints here speak of the parking deck gates, which require a parking pass to open, that rarely close. There have been malfunctions of these securities that took actual months to fix, which then malfunction again. I cannot speak for others, but I do know that both my roommate and I had our cars broken into due to the poor security measures put into place. The gates to the apartments also rarely work. It is a miracle nobody has had their apartments broken into. - I know someone who lives at another building had an issue with the carpeting when she moved in, which was missing a chunk. She has lived there for more than a year, and the leasing office has yet to do anything about it. - If you have a problem with the leasing office, they will not budge despite knowing full well that you are a college student. I have heard tell that they switch up when parents get involved, but I have yet to be able to verify that. - The towing company that is partnered with the complex is unprofessional and actively takes advantage of students. They boot your car without warning, and charge you exorbitant amounts of money just to get the boot off. The man (yes, it’s always the same man doing it) is highly unprofessional and rude, and has said questionable comments toward me and my partner. For an apartment complex meant for college students, University Crossings is not college student friendly. Sure, it has the advantage of convenience and appropriately priced rent for the apartment size and accompanying amenities, but the flaws outlined by this review and the others on this page make it apparent that the quality is only surface level. The way the leasing office treats its residents is negligent and haphazard. It’s not as bad as the Edge, but you might be better off living at somewhere like Arcadia or even on campus. And to University Crossings: I will not call you about details and how to make things better — you can clearly see the problems listed by people who have lived here, and the fact that you have yet to do anything to improve the quality of life is rather telling of your attitude towards your residents."
"I’ve lived here for three years now and let me say, this is definitely one of the better apartment complexes around UNCC. the buildings are a bit dated and appliances are not the best, but they definitely work and I’ve had little to no issues with any of the offered amenities. The location of this complex is worth it for sure, no need for a car if you live here. If nothing else, the maintenance team here is spectacular! They are always timely, efficient, and make sure they fix a problem when it arises. Not only are they great at their job, all of them are extremely kind and understanding people. I have never felt uncomfortable with them in my apartment as they usually go about their business and keep out of the way. I’ve lived in a few other complexes around Charlotte and they are significantly better than others I have experienced."
"Personally, I did not enjoy my time at University Crossings. I lived there from 2020-2021. There was ALWAYS construction outside. If they weren't working on the side of the building, they were working on the roof. And for a good 2 months they would always have either the front entrance or the back entrance blocked off. But they wouldn't tell you which one until you start to pull in and realize you have to turn around for construction. That was almost an everyday thing. Through out my year of living there we experienced: A broken a/c, a leaking a/c which caused water to seep through our floors, power outage, water outage, living under two large dogs who I'm 99% sure were not allowed there but were so loud at all hours, construction, the trash in the parking deck, and having to pay $100 dollars to get a key replaced. I do understand, it is in the lease that a door key costs $100 dollars. However, my door key snapped in half in their door. It wasn't completely my fault. The next week I find out an apartment complex close by (Aspen Heights,) uses the same exact key and charges renters 50 dollars for a replacement. I just found that very odd. There's a picture somewhere in this group of reviews of the trash piled so high in the parking deck. That picture is true. It sits right next to the door for you to smell right when you try to walk in or out. When they built University Crossings, I think they should have added more guest parking in the parking deck as well. Guest Parking is 10 dollars for the night which was kind of ridiculous. If you had someone coming for the weekend you were looking at spending 30-40 dollars just in parking. I made a habit of having my friend park at a local church and I would pick her up there because I didn't want a broke college kid to spend $10 on parking. But if you don't pay and choose to park there, be careful, you will get towed and have to pay $250. I am going to give this two stars because the mantience men and some of the people in the front office were nice. I just think University Crossings/American Campus Communites isn't your best choice to spend that much money on. The pictures below are only from one day of construction. There had been so much more than just these pictures. Also, that blue dumpster sat there using two parking spaces for a good two weeks."
