"We were referred to GI by our pediatrician about a year ago. The first available appointment was over a month out which was fine for us because we weren't dealing with a serious issue for our son. This review is primarily for the lab at the Apex facility where they had two techs and we were directed there after the appointment with the provider. The lab techs were probably trained at drawing blood just for adults because they did a very poor job attempting blood draw with our 2 year old. They poked and re-poked and changed hands and after all these attempts, they could not get anything. They wanted us to come back the same afternoon for another attempt. Needless to say, we were too horrified by the experience to go back. If you have a pediatric service in your building, please also have lab techs trained with children and not state "he has tiny veins"."

"Cannot say enough good things about our WakeMed experience! Making the appointment with reception was pleasant, reassuring and very easy! I was able to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time and was given access to documents ahead of time. Upon arrival the doctor’s assistants were kind and warm to both me and my son. And finally, Dr. Winberry! He was fantastic! He included my son in discussion and explained things in terms that my 7 year old could understand. He was also very understanding of and respectful to my son in regards to his privacy and his body. It’s not easy for a kid to deal with embarrassing gastro issues, but my son felt very comfortable with Dr. Winberry. I felt heard and I am confident with the plan moving further to resolve the issues at hand. Thank you all so much for making an appointment wrought with anxiety (for my son) a positive experience."

"My son was referred to this practice for bathroom and constipation problems. We were able to get an appointment in less then a week. As a parent you always worry when your child is having issues with even the simplest of things - like going to the bathroom! The staff at WakeMed Pediatric Gastroenterology were extremely helpful and offered great suggestions on diet and other things to try at home to help him overcome some of his issues. I left with a peace of mind and an action plan, which was something I hadn't gotten from our regular pediatrician. The doctor and the nurse were very friendly when interacting with my 5 year old son and spoke to him on his level. I would recommend this practice for any GI issues your child may be having."
