Reviews of Atrium Health Cabarrus Pain Management
"I think it’s awful that I have to even give a star at all. Let me start by saying that I have been managed at a pain doctor for the last seven years with no issues, and my doctor has gotten me to be able to live my life again. I went from walking with a cane and barely able to stand up to being able to work a little bit again. Unfortunately, my doctor has decided to close her practice and sent my entire file to this pain clinic as a referral. I did not check the reviews prior to my visit. My mistake and one I will never make again. This practice is extremely corporate focused. From the minute you walk in you can tell that they’re more interested in volume of patients then really truly assessing your needs. It’s part of the reason why our pain epidemic in this country is so bad in my opinion. Even though my entire chart had been sent to this doctor, he did not review it ahead of my appointment, and spent a total of nine minutes with me, which included my four minute exam. I suffer from multiple issues, including fibromyalgia, and lupus, along with nerve pain. It has been very well managed for a number of years and I was not looking to make any changes or add any additional medicines of any kind. Not only was the doctor rude, but he barely made eye contact and he ran from room to room seeing three other patients at least in the same amount of time I was waiting for him to come back to do the exam after changing into a gown. During my exam, I was asked to walk around the room, bend over, stand on my tiptoes, and was basically chastised because I’m well managed pain wise. His comment to me was that “see, you’re fine”. Of course, I’m doing fine, I’ve been managed well for many years. He told me that “I’m on too much medicine for someone my age” even though I’ve been on the same medication for many years and I am going to have issues down the road. You could tell Dr. Hancock was rushed and did not have time or an interest in me. I realize that there are a lot of people that seek drugs, but I’ve been to physical therapy, gotten massages and swim, stay active to help control my pain, but he didn’t even ask about that. My entire 9 year battle with pain had been diminished to 9 minutes. I left the practice in tears, and the nursing staff didn’t even ask me if I was OK. The front desk girls are rude and could care less about the people. It was painfully obvious that every single person there has a time limit for patients, and that they hold that very seriously. I left this appointment feeling violated. I was terribly shaking the rest of the day, and still find myself emotional now. No doctor should ever have the right to treat you that way. I am going to do a follow up with the practice to let them know how I feel but from what I’ve seen on here it won’t matter. I’m sure I’ll get the same comment everybody else’s getting with we’d like to hear more, please call us at… Sadly, I spent more time with a girl accepting my copayment than I spent with the doctor. I will never return, but I did learn a valuable lesson and that’s that we are our own advocates, and that we have to stand up to people/companies like this. I hope if Dr. Hancock reads this he checks in with his compassion once in a while."
"I would leave zero stars if I could. 1st off I was NOT seeking medication! I have a type of arthritis that has affected my SI joint. Was sent here for an injection. Was told Dr Manipelli was the best and he does 100s of these a year. No medication to calm my nerves was offered before the procedure. Got in the procedure room and the attendants were very nice. As he began he said you’ll feel pressure.. It was PAIN! After multiple attempts he couldn’t access the joint. I could feel him scraping my bone, so much it reverberated in my teeth. Finally he was able to administer meds to the joint. My body was in shock after the excruciating procedure and I was shaking uncontrollably. All staff was concerned about was getting me out the door as quickly as possible, ignoring the fact that I was struggling after the procedure. In the midst of all this Dr Manipelli stuck his head in the recovery area and was very nonchalant that he couldn’t access the joint after multiple attempts and “oh yea, you’re going to be sore.”After being told I’d feel like a new person, I left in a wheelchair. My husband and son had to carry me in the house and pick me up to take me to the restroom for 3 days. I absolutely couldn’t walk. They offered me no post op care. Procedure was done Dec 6, and I still have pain from the procedure now in Mid Jan. I was so traumatized from this that I canceled the follow up because there’s no way I’d ever go back to this office. Literal PTSD. I have been waiting on a survey from the office but of course none was ever sent so I decided to leave a google review. I pray that this helps someone to decide to NOT go to this office. Worst medical experience of my entire life."
"I wish I didn’t have to put a star here, I was send to this pain clinic for back pain for herniated disk in my back, the front desk help was rude and unfriendly, the PA is less than helpful, the doctor only seen me one time for back injection, that hasn’t helped. I’m not on anything for pain except hydrocodone 1month supply, and was told there would be no more prescribed to me, yet there are people in the waiting area nodding out. Seems the people with legitimate problems get no help but drug addicts are welcome with open arms. I wouldn’t recommend you go here if you’re in pain. You would probably get better attention somewhere else. It seamed a little sketchy from the beginning, but I was referred there by my PA that I trust but have let him know. This place is truly a joke. Not funny when you need help go elsewhere!!"
"Dr Ashok Manepalli had my mother sign paperwork on August 15 for pain management medication. He never send a prescription to the pharmacy. I call to request he call regarding her medication on September 11 and he returned the call to my mother on September 12th. She has memory loss so I am not exactly sure of the conversation but she agreed to wait until her appointment on September 15 before being given a prescription for pain medication. We have been seeing this Doctor since July and feel he has been dragging out her care. She has extreme back pain. I had to cancel a procedure since she was admitted to the hospital and sent an email via my chart. He claims he called but I have no record of receiving a call from him on my cell phone. He did not leave a message either. The number provided was correct. I called the office to be told he did call me and read off notes recorded in her chart. I did not receive a call from him. I am moving her care to another pain management doctor. I do not suggest anyone go to this pain management clinic. I ask who was over this clinic and was told Dr Hancock. I requested to have him call me and was told he most likely would not call me back."
"I seriously hate they won't let you give a NEGATIVE star!! I wouldn't recommend this practice to anyone who has REAL pain! The "Doctor" I saw is judgemental, ignorant and a straight up liar! Trust me, when I first read his visit notes, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe that he confused me with another patient given the fact that he was only in the room with me for maybe 10 minutes, but when I re-read them and realized that not only did he LIE about our conversation, he also LIED about giving me an exam! If we had discussed half of what he claimed he would have had to be in the room for at least 30-45 minutes and he absolutely was not. For him to claim that he checked my motor skills, that I had a normal gate, my skin was warm, my breathing was normal etc. etc., well....it's all a lie! He never examined me & I'm in a damn wheelchair, so I certainly wasn't up walking around!! I mean c'mon! If you get to a point in your career where you are judging people, uncaring, and have to lie then you need to move on and STOP harming people! I wish I had read the reviews before I went here!"
