Reviews of North Carolina Neurosciences Hospital
"Greatest medical experience I've ever had. Entire staff I dealt with were awesome. Only negative I can even think of is.. Chapel hill could use a refresh on the building. But I still love this place. The doctors and nurses really care and do an amazing job."
"The staff here are great and very compassionate!"
"My pre-teen son remained in Adolescent Psych Emergency Dept for MONTHS while awaiting placement in a treatment facility. For MONTHS I drove 3 hours (each way) once or twice a week to visit him. The immediate staff, those on the unit who provide direct care, were awesome with my son. My issue is with the system in general and more specifically, the policy makers who implement what I found to be conditions so substandard that my son left that hospital worse than when he was admitted. Oh, did I mention that the unit was located in the basement? No windows. No sunlight. I declared that due to no exposure to sunlight, I would have to speak with the hospital's medical director and get my son a prescription for Vitamin D. Even then, during the 3-4 MONTHS my pre-teen son was "incarcerated" he was only taken outside TWICE to spend some time in a garden. Fresh air and sunshine! Those are vital components for a healthy lifestyle. Please people, be humane and acknowledge the body-mind-spirit connection. It's known as being thorough, compassionate, and wholistic. The whole person, just not our parts. Do you have no ears, no heart? To conclude, after MONTHS in a basement unit at UNC-Chapel Hill, my son was transferred to Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, NC. It was there that my son received stellar care and attention. Dr Urda and every staff member and employee exceeded my expectations. After about a month, my son was transferred to Murdoch Developmental Center in Butner, NC, where he resided for about 30 days. Murdoch was a huge step down from Cherry but light years better than UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital. Our experiences occurred over two years ago, during what could have been a Spring/Summer to remember. As it was, except for Cherry Hospital, the MONTHS were traumatic for the child and his family. Tragic, just tragic. An opportunity lost. I gave a star, a huge star, for Tiffany and Brian and every other person on the unit at UNC-Chapel Hill who, within the constraints of policy, did all they could for my son."
"Horrible experience. They “care” about people? Really? My dad, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s is here for evaluation. I came to visit to find the room boiling hot, he feels like he is burning up, the room looks worse than a prison room with no pictures, no TV. We asked where his hearing aids were and the lady I spoke to had no idea. I am in a state of disbelief."
