Reviews of Southeast Pain and Spine Care - University
"I was referred here by my PCP. I looked up the reviews and got worried since the majority were one stars BUT since someone replied saying they were fake, blah blah blah, I gave the clinic a shot and went to my appointment. They didn't do much for me. They had me fill out a ton of paperwork and went through my medical history and then basically told me the next step in treatment would be getting an MRI and trying some non-narcotic prescription medication. It's been over two months since my appointment. After leaving several voice mails and messages through MyChart about getting an MRI, I've basically been abandoned as a patient. I also question the billing practices at this facility. This is a doctor's office, specialty clinic and expect to pay a specialist copay. That wasn't the case -- I was charged for some nonsense "facility fee" in addition to the "doctor fee/copay." I don't believe the person who replies to these reviews saying they're not a real patients. This clinic is so unorganized I got a call from my PCP two weeks after my appointment asking me to schedule with the clinic. Uh, hello? I just saw them?? And my PCP said they had no record of me seeing them... What a clusterfluff. Seriously. Just. Stay. Away."
"I'd like someone to tell me why when my mom came in for an appointment yesterday and her blood pressure was 180 / 105 the nurse tells her that "she's OK" and now today it's 210 over a 100 and she's having headaches (she didn't tell me about yesterday because of what the moronic nurse told her) so I have to tell her to get herself to a hospital before she has a stroke!!!! What kind of nurses and Doctors are this negligent!?!?!"
"I’ve only been a patient for a little over 90+ days, but my impression is forthcoming. The office administration staff is very strict but very detailed in all of their paperwork and follow up. I’ve not experienced anything negative and was very happy to see I could get an appt fairly quickly! I was assigned to being treated at the University Hospital location. The receptionist is fine, checking in is never a problem. When you’re called back, you will most likely see Katrina Traverso. BE THANKFUL! She is a delight and has a very upbeat sunny personality! She truly does take care of 95% of your visit and the work. She will go over every question that was asked on your medical info sheet. She is pleasant enough to listen to more than a one-word answer! She also has a sense of humor, which is important to me! After you spend at least 20 minutes plus with her, you’ll wait for a few minutes in the exam room and then Dr. Raza Khan will pop his head in. I’ve had 4 appointments so far and with 3 of those appts Dr Khan pops his head through the door or stands in the doorway/against the wall but never there long enough to sit. He popped his head in the doorway during my first visit, told me to “be positive and have faith” and they would get me back in for injections. Literally THAT’S ALL. Katrina (PA) takes care of EVERYTHING. I find this unusual, but Katrina makes up for it. Altho I can’t judge how good a physician is if I spend 5 minutes (max) having a conversation with them. They “do not manage medications!” I’ve challenged this a couple of times, asking how thats possible if the name of their practice is SouthEast PAIN MANAGEMENT. IF your doctor referred you there specifically for this, it will probably be a waste of time. You’ll probably be prescribed an injection(s) of some sort. I’ve begun Botox for migraine, completing my first round of injections. Every 12 weeks you are scheduled to have these repeated and he makes it very clear that you will not see any results as to efficacy, until after you receive the second set. The injection needle is so tiny it truly doesn’t feel as invasive as you would think! There are roughly 31 injection sites, a lot of them located close together. The first injections that I got were fine—at first- but the right side of my skull is still very sore, now 2+ weeks after receiving them. During my visit he rapidly injected and left. I wish I’d been told to expect soreness the following days. I would definitely suggest an initial visit with him, I think he might be able to help!"
"Dr. Hoppenfeld is excellent. I went to a neurologist, an orthopedist, and my primary doctor. I didn't get any relief for my migraines which I believe were triggered by my neck and back pain. I was chewing up Sumatriptan and Naproxen. I came to Dr. Hoppenfeld, got some trigger point injections, and had nearly a migraine free summer! If you are looking for answers you could not get elsewhere, come here. The office staff is friendly, the wait times are next to nothing, and the relief is priceless."
"Had a new patient visit today at 9:15, but all the paperwork they sent me said 9:15pm (I can live with a few typo's) but I called to confirm the appointment was 9:15 am. Driving from Denver NC I was stuck in traffic on I-85 so I called them almost an hour before my appointment to let them know I may be a few minutes late. Diane who I spoke to was sweet as pie and assured me it wouldn't be an issue. I arrived at the hospital at 9:12am so I was actually early, but when I walked through the door they were in the middle of a fire alarm and had the building on lockdown. You couldn't leave that lobby area. By the time I walked through Southeast Pain's door, it was 9:23am. I stood in the line that they had for every bit of 10 minutes. The lady at the desk had an attitude from the get go, which was ironic because she was bending over backwards for the people in front of me and very sweet to them. I was the only white person in the room, and I was discriminated against because she was racist. I could see it in her face and hear it in her voice. They acted as if me taking a day off work to drive almost an hour when I had already spoken to them about being a few minutes late was not sufficient for me to keep my appointment. I called the original lady I spoke to and she advised me to go back in and ask to speak to the Nurse Manager which I did. 15 min later when she came out front, all she could offer me was another hour trip back out there at 1pm to see someone later that day. I grabbed my paperwork and advised her I will not be doing business with this company and I advise you stay clear of them as well. Their actual Dr's may do ok once you see them, but the on site staff is horrible. Strongly advise not being a patient of this establishment. I also noticed all their reviews are negative. Should have looked at that before I wasted my time in the first place. I understand my situation had multiple variables out of their control like traffic and a fire alarm, but when you have made the effort, called ahead and this is my first impression of their company, regardless you should make the effort to see the patient. I have now left 3 voicemails for Maria Travis the director with no returned call. Just terrible service all the way arround."
