"The physician at the women's GYN clinic, Dr. Johnson, appears to rely on her personal morals to justify refusing tubal ligation, disregarding age, mental health concerns, family genetics, or personal choice. She continuously emphasized how a man might desire children from me, contradicting the expected conduct of a medical care provider. This approach violates ethical standards by intertwining personal beliefs with patient care and dignity. As a seasoned mental health professional, I'm appalled by her actions, including attempting to delay my treatment by trying to change my decision and failing to give me proper info about the surgery can be a 2-day recovery. Moreover, the earliest appointment available was in February, only to later inform me I couldn't schedule it until June. Dr. Johnson persistently said I would get pregnant and find a man. She insisted despite my lack of activity or desire for children, repeating myself to her during our meeting 3-4 times. She belittled my preference for not wanting an IUD and have done that in the past. Despite my family history of hormone-related cancer, most birth control methods makes it unsuitable for me. Mixing personal beliefs with patient care contravenes medical ethics and undermines patient autonomy. Dr. Johnson's disregard for my medical needs and intentional delay of my care is concerning. Her actions, including disrespecting me, are unacceptable. Guidelines from the American College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (ACOG) permit tubal ligation for women in their 30s, highlighting its ethical permissibility. Addressing such behavior is crucial, impacting not only individual patients like myself but also influencing the trust of other veterans in healthcare providers. I intend to bring this issue to the attention of the VA to uphold ethical standards for all patients' well-being and care. I hope the VA will conduct a thorough investigation. Failure to do so would not only disrespect me but also disregard the diverse medical and mental health needs of other patients, who, like me, have chosen a different path for various reasons."
