Reviews of Owls Academy Child Development Center
"I have since changed my rave review I left when my son attended this want to be academy. The director is a scam artist. She leads you to believe she cares about the well-being of your child when in fact all she wants is your money. Red flags I should've noticed from the beginning: Yearly tuition fee of $200 (most daycares charge a one time application fee) Contract times - your child can only be at the daycare for no more than 10 hours a day and can only be dropped off the times u stated. So one day u need your child to be there 6-4 the next 8-6 sorry you can't. Your contract time is 8-6 No lock on the front door - Unbelievable, anyone can walk in the building and wall freely because the director is never there. Turnover - new teachers every 2 weeks. No structure, no curriculum, high prices undereducated babysitters One angle views of the cameras. There is lots of space that cannot be seen on the cameras. When my son attended I was getting reports of him either being bitten or hit or he had bitten or hit someone. At his new daycare which he's been at for over a year now I have had one report of him being bitten. Why is that? Makes you wonder. This babysitting company follows the Cumberland county school schedule. If Cumberland county closes school for cold weather so does owl academy. Now I can understand closing because of snow or making a delay of so many hours but for real closing every time Cumberland country schools close. This is ridiculous because I'm obviously bringing my child to daycare because I have to work. Which leads into another thing. They also close daycare on every holiday. Our current daycare only closes on Easter, memorial day, 4th of July, labor day, thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Why do they need to close on presidents day? Most working people don't get that holiday off or the other holidays they take off. It makes it very difficult to find alternate child care for your child. You don't get refunded or discounted anything for your child not being at daycare for the full week. Do yourself and your child some justice and look around at other daycares that are cleaner, have a curriculum and will teach your child for the same price as this overpriced babysitting company."
"Initially things started great. The standard had been set high with Ms. Leslie, Ms. Urma and Ms. Jasmine. As time continued, there were a rotation of teachers who barely lasted two weeks. After the rotating stopped, the kids ages 1 (my son's age) up until 5 years old were combined. When addressed with the director, nothing changed immediately. Several weeks later, the kids had been separated again BUT there was more new staff. My son began to cry every time I dropped him off which was strange since he was used to being there. I started watching the camera footage more closely to see what the issue was. I saw a caregiver walk over to him and take the toy he was playing with and throw it on the floor. I watched him and two of his classmates under the cubbies laying on top of each other and the "caregiver" walk away without separating them. I watched the same "caregiver" check her phone that shouldn't have been in the classroom with her. I went against my better mind to withdraw him because he had grown attached to his classmates and I was worried about him adjusting to another daycare facility since this was his first daycare. Yesterday was the final straw. While the other children in his class were being put to sleep, he was roaming the class until one "caregiver" removed him and took him to the infant room. He was then placed in an infant bouncy seat. My son is 20 months and too large to be in the chair. He was strapped in and when he stood up it was on his back. They allowed him to fall asleep in this chair. He should have been on a cot in his classroom. If he could not sleep then he should have been given a book or quiet toy on the cot. When I addressed all my concerns with the director (even more than listed), I was told that she is doing the best that she can to run the center with these people and the new "teacher " is still fairly new as if those are reasonable excuses. Then in regards to my son being in the infant room and bouncy chair with the assistant director, she tells me that she was in the classroom as well and that my son wanted to be in the chair. Another unreasonable response. PLEASE DO NOT pick this center. I feel awful that I was tricked into believing they cared for my child. Don't let the cameras fool you, there is only 1 angle in each classroom so things still can happen out of view. Ms. Leslie, Ms. Jasmine, and Ms. Urma are all awesome teachers. The rest of the staff have truly left us heartbroken."
