Reviews of Western Carolina Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialists
"I had been having multiple nosebleeds all throughout December and January. I went to Dr Wenzell and he cauterized a blood vessel in my right nasal passage. This has stopped my nosebleeds. I’m so thankful to him for this. My visit was quick and check-in was a breeze. Andrea Mann"
"I was very happy to finally get professional help with my hearing loss. Dr. Lee was very thorough and patient. Everything was explained very well and I had great options to proceed. I felt totally confident in Dr. Lee’s knowledge and experience. I can’t wait to get started with my new hearing aids. Highly recommended."
"All staff members that we interacted with were very friendly and knowledgeable. The doctor’s exam was very thorough along with a very good bedside manner."
"My experience with Western Carolina Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialists in Clyde, N.C was nothing I was hoping for. My interaction with them started on May 2nd and sadly ended around June 28th. The reason why I'm sending this review is due to the lack of communication I received by their assistant Amber. I requested to be referred to a specialist, which is what my mother and I felt was best to be seen by a specialist instead of continuing to waste time and money. I then called on a Friday to give Amber the name of the individual I wanted to use as my endocrinologist. This whole time I was told she's the only one in that office that can make referrals. I then had to call the following Thursday to see is she had called because I never received a call from her. I had to leave another voicemail for her to call because she never seems to answer her phone. When one is worried whether they have cancer or not it is a time sensitive matter. During this whole time, I never got the feeling that Amber or anyone at the facility had my best interests in mind. When I was at my breaking point because of the lack of communication, my mother called the office trying to get some answers. When she called the office, she asked to speak to the office manager, which she was told was Betty Jean. She was transferred to Betty Jean. She explained the situation and how we both were very frustrated with the lack of communication from Amber. Betty Jean without permission from my mother automatically transferred her to Amber putting her in an uncomfortable situation since Amber was the issue. This I felt was very unprofessional of her and that Betty Jean didn’t want to deal with the issue herself. Amber answered the phone. My mother was speaking with her about the situation and that we needed to get a confirmation about a referral to a specialist that we had been waiting on. Amber then proceeded to tell my mom that she's not letting her talk. Amber stated to my mom that when she spoke to me about my biopsy results, which were inconclusive, she provided me with options. The "options" included getting another biopsy. My mother stated to Amber that she nor the office seem to be acting as an advocate for her daughter. She stated that they were being a hindrance to her health and welfare. Amber at that point stated to my mom, "your daughter is only 31, I doubt it's cancer”. My mother was so angry that she asked, probably demanded, that the referral be done that day. Another interaction I had with Betty Jean when calling up asking why Amber was not calling me back. Betty Jean stated "we see about 40 patients a day and are very busy....". I felt she was just providing an excuse and not an answer. Also, during one occasion of me calling up trying to get information I was told that according to the notes in my record I was contacted and told that your office was sending me to an endocrinologist and requesting genetic testing be done. No one ever called me to speak to me about this referral. Every time I called the office the receptionist acted like my call was an inconvenience to her, which I felt the same every time I walked into the office. When I finally decided to be seen by a specialist, I requested copies of my biopsy and ultrasound results so I could provide them to the specialist. This too seemed like an inconvenience for the office to do. It took a week to get copies. I didn’t check the copies that I received until later and then realized the office only gave me my ultrasound results. The office then called me about a month later stating they had the copy of my biopsy results. During my whole experience with Western Carolina Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist, I never felt they were being advocates for me. It always seemed they were a road block. I never plan on returning to this healthcare provider due to the lack of communication, attitude presented to me by the office staff and the stress the whole situation placed on me."
"A very pleasant young man checked checked me in. I was called back promptly after the process. The young lady who came in to start my ear exam was courteous but I was not told she was a student and found out only after the PA came in. I would have preferred to know beforehand so I would have had a choice. All students have to learn, but the patient should be told from the beginning, and the doctor or PA should introduce the student and ask if its ok for the student to proceed with the exam, etc. This has always been my previous experiences. My ear problem was resolved. Overall my experience was satisfactory."
