Reviews of 160 Driving Academy of Raleigh
"The one star, bad reviews that have been written are all correct about the incompetence of this driving school. They put Amazon students before self-paying students, like myself, and a few people in my same position were treated poorly as well. The workers have been subjected to poor working conditions, a portable office trailer that has no electricity, no water, no fridge, no microwave. During bad weather, like rain, students have to wait in their cars because the program can’t even buy a tent for us to wait under. Additionally, my test was rescheduled at least 3 times before I was able to take it, when I failed, I never heard back from them about rescheduling my second test. They continued to give excuses for their poor communication, eventually, I had to use a third party to test. 160 required hours turned into 4 months of horror, if I could give 0 stars, I would. Please, for your sake and your wallets sake, do NOT go here for your commercial license."
"Although there’s a lot to say and learn from going here but the best is the experience of great instructors such as Gentry Gunn, Lou Hurst, and Corey Buie. The learning process up until your test, students need to be aware of everything presented to them."
"UPDATE: I will having to downgrade my rating I have for this school. Once you finish you 160 hours for this school. You can't practice no more at the lot to prepare for your test. Even if the DMV is backed up and your testing date is 2 month away like they did me. You can only come practice 24 hour before your test date. This is highly unacceptable for a student to be stuck without any practice or away from driving for two month and be expected to remember what they learned two months ago with no practice. The people up at the office in garner told this to the instructors on the yard. I failed my 90 backing on my previous test and they told me I can't come to the yard to practice so I can pass the second time. I have to wait the day before my testing date to get a chance to practice. I test again on Oct 9th and I can come back to the lot on the Oct 8th. When I know I will have to wait my turn to get a chance to practice only 2-3 times because there will be 10-15 people waiting to use the truck. AVOID THIS SCHOOL! THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY AND TREAT YOU LIKE SH!T. GO TO ROADMASTERS INSTEAD! STEER CLEAR! Also they have 4-5 instructors quit because they are being treated unfairly. When the manual truck breaks down they combine both class of students to use one truck so the having a ratio of 20 student per truck sometimes....honest truth. *My PREVIOUS RATING: Instructor to student ratio is very high, too many students..not enough driving instructors on the lot and not enough trucks available for student to train in. Ten student practicing and all sharing on one truck is ridiculous. We are on the field for 8 hours but I have to wait my turn, and only able to get in the truck to practice maneuvers 2 times a day. Both turns lasting 15-20 mins. 40 minutes of drive time on the lot out of the eight hours your there is not acceptable. Having a long list of names of who will use the truck next. It's like waiting to get on a ride at the amusement park. The instructors are very nice, funny, and amazing people. They make the best of things and is there to help you succeed despite the circumstances of the lot. I didnt like the fact that the classroom learning was online at a physical location. All my other class mates where able to stay at home and learn by logging on. I had to drive all the way to garner just to get on a computer when I could have stayed home and logged on from there. The computers they had available to use were slow and out of date. They were lagging and the people in charge at the office was not a big help as far as getting the computers to work properly. I ended up bringing my personal laptop and that did a much better job. I did feel prepared for the DMV permit test, the materials they gave us was helpful. I passed first time. The only reason I went with this school as my choice is because it worked with my schedule. Other than that the computer we learned on was terrible and the truck lot wasnt a spectacular expeRience. Lou Hurst went above and beyond in making a video for student to watch and learn the pre trip inspection, in cab inspection and LAB/ Break test. Flora (FLO) is a joy to be around, kind, has patience, and helps in anyway she can. Marty will be there to walk you through step by step and can give you very helpful tips and is very knowledgeable. Classmates are very uplifting and were all there to learn and support one another."
"Enroll in this school at your own risk one they lie to you it’s a 4week program for you to only be there for months student to instructor ratio is also horrible you go to yard for 8hrs for you to be in the truck for 10mins or less!the management don’t care about their students or their time!it’s so frustrating to say the least all they want is to pocket your money not teach you.they will cancel classes whenever and give priority to Amazon students yet they expect you to pass your Cdl exam.I can never refer anyone to this school"
"I contacted this Academy because for one I met another female like myself who just completed her training and said their program was good. Second reason is because I was turned away from another school do to personal circumstances. They schedule my appointment I’m waiting 3 days for this appointment. The day of the appointment they cancel at 9AM to say the manager is out the office due to a work event. I’m sure this event been was planned so why was I scheduled on this day. And now they are telling me I have to wait to the end of the next week to get another one. RIDICULOUS & not professional in my eyes."
