Reviews of Appalachian Community Services
"Don't know what these people can really do. when your life sux all the time, how is anyone supposed to fix it? Everything I go here, I talk to a person into a TV who asks me if I am suicidal. They want basically to give drugs to turn into a zombie or throw you into confinement, which is the goal of this place. The mental health field seems more of a scam system than anything else is what I see almost always."
"Western NC has very limited resources. There is an abundant need for many different services as more and more people are retiring in this area. This is depleting availability of people offering these service, lengthen wait time and shortening patience of those willing to serve. I had to wait 2 years to find a place that was willing to help me. I am happy to of found ACS, as they were quick to serve and help me find my path. I am now 2.5 months in and feel like I my life has improved. I did not give 5 stars as the facilities are behind, however, understand the limited resources given to services like these to improve service."
"My gf has been trying to reach this company for over a week to try and have her meds refilled. Not one single person there can pick up the phone and call her back and help her and she has begun to run out of her meds. So much for caring for people. I called and it goes to the same answering machine message. Filled complaint with the Better Business Bureau today"
"My children were seen by their psychiatrist based on a referral from Haven. This was after one of my children had claimed their mother was abusing them. The psychiatrist assessed the children as fine and never once asked them about the abuse and starvation; despite, all the evidence produced. This center needs to be shutdown."
"I have to say that they do offer a variety of services. Some of those services are outdated. The staff in the front office are nice. However, a nurse practitioner not a Physician prescribes the medication. Laura Hudson prescribed my husband two medications that the FDA says not to mix. He was complaining about side effects from the first medication that was prescribed to him. She raises the dosage and adds another medication. She also informed him that on his next visit she was going to add another medication that the FDA says not to mix with the other two medications. I did not catch this with the paperwork the pharmacy gives out. A few days go by after getting this new cocktail of medication he became a zombie. He was confused he could not walk from one end to the house to the other without having to rest. This is added to the electrical shocks he was feeling from the first medication. He would also shake uncontrollably. He informed her of these side effects. She ignored the side effects. She raised his dosage. Which sent a red flag off to me. I pulled up the information about the Medication on the FDA's website and found out that they were not supposed to be mixed. I repeatedly called for this nurse practitioner for three days before I got a response. By this time I had a zombie for a husband. She said to just stop taking the second medication. (If you remember he was having side effects from the first too). I called her back. To find out if he could stop taking the first medication too. I eventuality ended up in the emergency room to find out. The FDA also warned about stopping these medications without a doctor overseeing that too. The side effects from her cocktail lasted three months. She didn't listen when someone told her they were having a side effect. She ups the dosage. When I was repeatedly trying to get a hold of her I was told that it was common practice. I do not see why it is common practice for someone to be prescribed medications that the FDA says not to mix. I do not think that the community needs someone who ignores side effects and FDA warnings prescribing medication. I am also upset that it took so long for her to get back with us."
