Reviews of Hickory Ridge High School
"I could care less about the shirt or the girl being disrespectful by not obeying the principal , my problem with this whole situation is how this principal handled this situation. Nowhere in the code of laws in the state of North Carolina is a school dress code violation an arrestable offence. you have a person in power ordering a person who works for the school system to commit a crime and illegally arrest this kid. I'm a retired federal law enforcement officer and a medically retired NC state law enforcement officer and I'm appalled at this kid being threatened with arrest by a person in a government position of power over a dress code violation that was no longer a violation once the kid put the jacket on. And we always talk about cops needing to de-escalate situations what about this principal. She purposely escalated this situation once it was resolved when the jacket was put on, which as a former investigator has me asking the question ,why? Did she expect this outcome? It lends credence to the girls claims that she's had problems with this principal to where the students mother had to get involved to have the mother contacted before this principal dealt with this kid. Maybe the principal escalated it because she finally could show this mother and kid who's boss and for her own ego as there was no reason to escalate it further once the jacket went on, the only one disrupting school operations with this situation was the principal and I personally believe she should be fired for threatening an illegal arrest which could probably rise to a civil rights violation and escalating the situation and unprofessionalism and governmental abuse of power for threatening an unlawful arrest without probable cause as the dress code violation was covered, so at the time of the threat there was no violation.I'm concerned with the lack of training in civil rights that sro's are getting in schools nowadays. I read all the time of children in schools having their civil rights violated and no one says anything. I understand why we have officers in schools but I don't agree with it, it's like a school to jail pipeline that shouldn't be. We have turned our schools into prisons and I agree we need officers on school grounds but officers should not be involved in school discipline unless a clear cut crime has been committed such as bringing a weapon on school grounds or a shooting. I don't believe officers should enter a school but patrol the perimeter unless there is a clear cut crime, not a school violation but an actual crime under state law and let the teachers and principals handle school violations. We are criminalizing our kids school violations and it needs to stop."
"What an utterly shameful way to treat a brilliant student! This sounded like a vengeful adult using dress code as an excuse to terrorize a child. What maddness leads so called educators to even think about arresting stidents. That child is light years beyond you and your total lack of skill and humanity, what a disgrace you are!"
"Please work to make the school more accepting and safe. Stupid seminars in the auditorium or segments on the announcements don't do anything. Nobody pays attention to those. Maybe you should get feedback from students and work from that? You'd think that a school, a place where we spend most of our time, would take our well being into consideration, right? Would give 0 stars if I could."
"They blocked every fun website you could think of. What am I going to do now when my teacher thinks I'm doing Aleks? They blocked cool math games but not cool math games for kids? Thats what I get to look forward to playing in MAV time?"
"Hickory Ridge High is a beautiful school. This is my child's first year there and I have to say I've been very impressed with the outcome so far. High School suppose to be a child's best years. Make learning and going to school fun. Its to many bad reviews Ragin' Bulls family we have to do better!!"
