"I am a healthcare professional with a master’s degree. I asked when Checking in what my out-of-pocket cost would be for the visit. I was told $118. I reluctantly paid as that is a lot of money. I even considered canceling my appointment at that time. I asked that she double check but that would be the only associated cost and she assured me that it was. The nursing staff was great. Very friendly and professional. The physician who debrided my wound was nice but when I asked that he use injectable lidocaine to numb it, he did not. One nurse was kind enough to even draw up the lidocaine and left it for the physician. I understand I could have pushed for him to use the injectable lidocaine but I thought to myself how unfortunate that other patients would not know they could request to be numbed and therefore made comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable procedure. I had a fair amount of discomfort for several hours after. Fast forward 3 weeks- I get a bill for $170. I called and ask why I received this bill and they stated that I needed to pay separately for the physician. I reluctantly paid. Now today (roughly 6 weeks later) I get a bill for over $760. I almost burst into tears. I called the billing office and they stated that my insurance would not pay it because I had not met my deductible. I relayed that I would not have agreed to be seen at their clinic if I’d known I would pay over $1000 for a simple wound scraping. That I was told I would only pay $118. I have filed a complaint. I want to share this experience because I have devoted my life to caring for patients and would never want this to happen to one of mine."
