Reviews of Pineville Ice House
"Beginner figure skater over here! I go skating here during the first public session of the day, usually anywhere between 12-4 (hours vary by day) and it's usually not too busy. Enough skaters on the ice that everyone has space without feeling like we are constantly in each other's way. I would give 4 stars, but the other day there was this birthday party during the public session and there were children sitting on the ice and jamming their blades into the ice. They created these huge holes and it went unchecked by their parents and the staff. This poses a huge risk to ALL skaters, especially new skaters. I packed them with snow the best I could, but the sheer amount of holes was just shocking. In one corner alone there was 18 that I counted. Disappointing, but not surprising. I went once during the Friday night public session and it was jam-packed. The Zamboni cleaned the ice and then five minutes later the ice was practically snow. There was a figure skater who was doing spins with her blades at neck level. There is a time and place to practice and a busy public session isn't it, especially with children around. I don't know how it is during the summer, but I would guess it's a little less busier just because the rink/skating is generally seen as a winter activity. $15 for admission. Price includes rental skates (figure and hockey), but if you want to get into figure skating I would advise to buy a pair from Xtreme's Pro Shop (I have Jackson Evos) and sharpen your skates there. Pineville's Pro Shop is geared more towards hockey players and hockey skates. Rental skates have no ankle support and no edges due to dull blades."
"My daughter called and asked if they were open for shaping and sharpening new skates. They said yes they were available all day. She drove 35 minutes to be told that the person that could do it was in a meeting and wouldn’t be available for 30 minutes.then after she waited the 30 minutes, she was told the meeting wasn’t going to be done in time for them to be sharpened today. So 70 minutes of waiting and they were able to find someone to help her. As far as the rink goes it is fine for expert skaters but kids speeding skating and running into other people goes unchecked by the staff."
"They don’t have clear instructions for new students on first day class like how to properly handle a fall or avoid a fall and don’t even check if shoes are tight enough etc. They should spend sometime with proper instructions instead of directly putting the kids on the ice. My kid fell 4 or 5 times and started crying with the pain."
"My only complaint is there’s not enough public sessions like there’s only 1 a day for an hour.. and they have nothing on the weekends which is unfortunate. Plus there’s not enough ice time for figure skaters as it seems to be all about hockey ice. They need to make more time for public sessions and figure skating like extreme ice does. I live literally 10 mins from Pineville rink but I end up driving the 30+ mins to extreme ice due to more ice times available for figure skaters and more public sessions. Sometimes it would be nice to just pop in down the road but the schedule is so slim I can’t."
"Really nice ice rink. Friendly polite staff, tons of parking, easy to get to and clean feeling. Small place to grab food inside, and tons of seating on upper and lower deck. Certainly much nicer than other skate locations in the Charlotte areas. Highly recommend."
