"My children are thriving at ALC mosaic. They are internally motivated, able to express themselves freely and are deeply respected for who they are. Years ago, their father and I made a list of our priorities and this school and community are in alignment with our deepest desires for our children."
"We have been a part of this community, on and off, for several years. I pulled my son out of traditional school after K as that environment was not serving him and he hated to go every day. His teacher and school admin tried to make him fit into a box he would not and could not ever fit in to. He was enrolled at MSRA, a charter school in Charlotte for highly gifted kids. However, they were so focused on academics that the social/emotional needs of their kids were sidelined. Highly gifted kids have a greater need for social/emotional support than would/could ever be provided in a traditional setting. At the end of the day, those skills are the ones that will ensure successful navigation of the world. We homeschooled for many years, while continuing to stay in contact with Mosaic. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Nancy, the founder, and what she has created with Mosaic. My son is currently enrolled there fulltime after it became apparent that we both needed more of a community than homeschooling alone was providing. He loves to go every day and he is encouraged and supported by the adults, as well as the other children, to live in to his gifts, to explore his passions and interests and to interact with the community in a way that feels safe to him and supports his social/emotional needs. We both feel blessed that this option is available to us!"
"My son has been a student at ALC Mosaic for almost 4 years. I know he is loved, respected and trusted here, and given space to pursue his own interests, whatever they may be. The campus is centrally located within close proximity to many parks and a short drive to uptown. Field trips are offered weekly and the students are encouraged to plan them. The physical space has been designed around needs of the children. A zipline, giant sandbox, hammocks, a multitude of swings, and even chickens means that adventure awaits right outside the schoolhouse doors. Inside there are cozy spaces where children can immerse themselves in imaginative play, block or LEGO building, curl up with a book, use a computer, or engage in other academic pursuits. There is no other school I would trust with my son and his determined spirit and propensity to “think BIG”. Here he is honored just as he is, all children are."
"Our son has grown so much at ALC Mosaic. When I asked him what he has gotten from the school, he said "I have come out of my shell and I no longer feel stress and anxiety. Going to school there makes me feel like I'm with family." I believe that when a person is feeling good about themselves and is happy, that learning is inevitable. This is the perfect setting for our son to set a foundation for life long learning."
"Mosaic is full of wonderful people who are driven to make self-directed education accessible to everyone, and they are making it happen! It is a nurturing environment with the freedom children need to play, try new things, make mistakes, and grow. At the end of the day the kids are usually covered in mud and paint and couldn't be happier!"
