"Wow.....I can't believe that it has been 14 months. How the time flies. This was my first time ever staying in a Halfway House. It almost felt like a frat house, but without the partying..LOL!!! The downtown residence near UNC-A was absolutely a great place to stay, due to the fact that I had to make trips to the courthouse alot for my terms of Sobriety Court. Since this property was close to downtown, it's easy to walk to places, as far as shops and restaurants, also the bus stop is close to make trips to downtown and to get to work. When talking to the house owner, Mitchell, he advised me to stay in this house, since I had a busy courthouse schedule, and his advise worked out great for me. With my terms of Sobriety Court, I chose to live in a Halfway House. And I am so very glad that I went to Footprints. It was definitely an experience. As long as you follow the house rules, do your chores that you are assigned, clean up after yourself, keep a job and by all means -- STAY SOBER. Some of the time, the house was a rotating door. But you have to understand, that the Owner and House Manager, weed out the bad vibes and guys not following the rules, not only for them but also for your Sobriety and safety. Thank you for that Mitchell and Nathan. So in a house full, everyone has different personalities and different ways of living. It takes a minute to get settled in, then when you start talking to the rest of the guys that live there, you find out that all of you are in the same boat. Some more than others. Everyone at some point, helps you or you help them out one way or another. It becomes a brotherhood. And if you ever want to talk....Nathan (House Manager/North) always has a lending ear, just as well as Mitchell. In conclusion, I definitely recommend Footprints Recovery Residence to anyone that wants to start to live a sober life or needs help with starting recovery. "Footprints has honestly saved my life and changed it forever. 6 months ago I had to go to rehab, because I lost everything and hit a new low. Towards the end of my stay at rehab I started to worry...where was I going to go? I lost my job, my house, everything. There was no place to turn, and very little hope for staying sober in the future. I knew I couldn't go back and had to find a new life in a new city. I found out about footprints by seeing the logo on a notepad, and thought about it, I had never been sober and have never lived in a halfway house. Now I am so glad I made the decision to go to footprints, the owner and managers really helped me with the resources I needed to get back on my feet, and start over. The accountability is helpful to my recovery and everyone is understanding of the different client's situations, as everyone is similar in our problems but unique in personality and spirit. I never thought I could stay sober, and was ready for an early death after suffering a few more years. Now I not only have hope for the future but am living a better life every single day, and truly believe we can all make it if we really want it. I feel blessed that I have a place to stay and have made many positive connections that I will keep for a lifetime.
