Reviews of Excel Learning Center Vision Drive
"Great daycare! The teachers are very loving and care so much about each child. Highly recommended"
"We sent our son there for over 4 years at the Vision Road location. Most of the time it went very well. We always wanted to have better communication from the teachers. Some did an amazing job, while others left something to be desired. They really changed for the worse the last few months we were there. When our son went into 4–5-year-old class he really developed quickly. He was able to write his name and was learning the alphabet and numbers. He loved to help the teacher and was given a lot of “jobs” or “task”. He was really growing. When that teacher left the learning stopped; the homework stopped. No more structure. Everything but playtime stopped, in fact they only had playtime. The new teacher would scream and yell at the kids. Grab their arms and pull hard. One teacher grabbed our child’s ear (while he had an ear infection). When these issues were brought up to the Director, our son started getting kicked out for the day and threaten to be expelled. Our son would come home with bruises and bites, but he would be the only one sent home and in trouble. The ratio of teachers to kids was constantly off. They of course denied this claim, but our eyes don’t lie. We tried to speak to the Director (the District Director since there isn’t a director at this location anymore). Nothing truly changed. We contacted the state about these issues and when they went out there everything was OK. Didn’t know you were allowed to grab kids, but not allowed to send them into time out? There used to be so many fantastic employees. The kitchen staff, front desk and teachers used to all care about the children. Now they work as a skeleton crew and there are never enough people to watch your child safely. A lot of these changes seem to have happened when a new owner took over, we were not made aware of this. I learned this through the NC DCDEE website after a useless attempt to reach out for help. At the end of the day, they gave up on our kid. It has been heartbreaking to watch our son not feel safe in a once loved and enjoyable place. He was disenrolled from them the last day he went, we found out the next day. I do wish could of said good bye to his friends he has known his whole life."
"We have used Excel for 6 years and have had a fantastic experience up until now. Some of the teachers are just completely fantastic: Miss Mikayla, Miss Gail, Miss Nikki, Miss Stephanie and Ms. Helen really loved our kids and helped them learn and thrive. Recently, staffing has become an issue and there are a ton of new faces and you never know which room your kid will be in or what teacher they have and that teacher wont know about your child’s plan if they have one to help with sensory and/or coping skills. At times your child will change several classes and teachers in an afternoon and the facility wonders why some kids have difficulty coping without structure. It is clear that they are focused on coverage vs. quality of care. I understand staffing needs are a challenge across the country but a recent rate hike with the explanation that the center could continue as a competitive 4 star facility seemed to be a farce. This has become a great facility for kids who coast along without a challenge ever but dont expect support from current admin if your child faces intermittent sensory or transitional challenges. They will be kicked out after years of attendance. When your child is thriving in school and at home but suddenly is in crisis at the center she has known since infancy, it is clear what the problem is."
"We moved to Wilmington from the Midwest when our daughter was just over a year old. She had never been to a childcare facility so choosing one was a nerve-wracking experience since we didn’t know anyone in town. Fortunately, we had an incredible experience at this Excel location. The teachers were caring and took great care of our girl. She was there for about a year before we moved back to the Midwest. I was sad to pull her from such a great place that she did so well in."
"We have been enrolled at this center for a month and love it so far. Everyone is always so inviting, my daughter is happy to come in each day! The center is always clean and her classroom is always organized. She is in Ms. Ashley’s Pre K class and loves it there! Would recommend to anyone looking for educational care! They also do field trips, they went to a pumpkin patch today!"
