"Shawna Allman, PA has been my primary care physician for several visits. She is caring, intelligent, knowledgeable, humble, a patient communicator, and supportive of my desire to participate in my health care services and my interest in using natural medicine when possible. At this point she is easy to schedule with but I see that changing as the good word gets out in her. So thankful to have access to her and to this wonderful practice."
"I have seen both, Derek McClure and Michael Griffith at Ashe Family Healthcare and cannot speak highly enough about them both. Finding a doctor that listens is rare these days and I felt that with both. Last year I was referred to a specialist for surgery and before returning to work I needed to be released. I was impressed when Dr. McClure spent more time informing me of post-surgery expectations and the likelihood of things that could happen that shouldn’t be avoided, than the actual surgeon/specialist had. Good doctors need compassion for people and these two have it!"
"I’ve only had 2 appointments so far , but dereck McClure has honestly made going to the doctor an overall less stressful and easier thing for me. As someone who HATES hates hates and will have a panic attack over seeing a doctor… I was actually excited about my appointment today lol . I’ve never had a doctor that listened to me anyways and I think most doctors are just lazy. so I will go years without seeking help or if I’m sick I tough it out basically unless I’m about to actually die I will not go. He has made me so comfortable and is so nice and really listens and really cares. His bedside manner has been excellent and he acts like hes really invested in you as a person , not just a dollar sign. So far I have absolutely no complaints and if you’re looking for a doctor , he is a great choice."
"****PICKING AND CHOOSING PATIENTS**** While I genuinely dislike writing negative reviews I do feel this system of practice should be brought to light when searching for a primary care provider. My family and I are new to Ashe County. I fully admit that it has been several years since my last physical and bloodwork. After experiencing symptoms of what could have been a TIA on Monday, it kicked me into swift gear in finding and getting back into routine medical care. I searched google and came across Ashe Family Healthcare. Some reviews were good and some not so good. The ones with Jordain stood out, so I read her bio on the website , it states she is accepting new patients!! I was ready to call!! My initial phone call I was greeted by Megan, who was very encouraging of being able to get me in for an appointment within a few days. Megan made me hopeful for working me in within the week for an appointment. Directed to the website, I was able to print the forms without any issues. I was honest in filling out my paperwork and medical history. I provided them with what I thought was the reasonable and necessary information of my family history and very non-existent medical background of the last few years as asked. It was a new method to me of filling out a medical history BEFORE you are given a scheduled appointment. It was actually an application and/or pre-screening to determine IF you are a fit for the practice. After waiting for close to 24 hours (hours and hours I could have been searching for someone that would actually see me), checking and touching base via email. I received word that I was DENIED. I am currently awaiting a call back with any insight as to WHY I was denied but fully anticipate I won't be hearing back from them. Please be aware that it is in my opinion that this is why SOME practitioners should not be practicing. Picking and choosing patients after reading over their medical history and forms is completely unacceptable and very unethical. Perhaps that should have clued me in of the incompetence of the practice."
"I have used Michael Griffith for a few years as my primary care doctor and had insurance during that time. I do not have insurance at the moment due to career change but was having a tightness in my chest and thought it was something to do with my lungs since I had been sick the week before. I made an appointment for that day and let the front desk know I did not have insurance but thought it would be less expensive for me to get checked out with my primary doctor than go to the ER and rack up a debt there. The lady at the front desk agreed and they made me pay $85 up front for the visit. I waited over an hour before Michael ever came into the room to see me. He then did a very quick examination and then said he didn’t think it was my lungs because I wasn’t coughing. He said he also didn’t think it was my heart but it could be and we wouldn’t know without an EKG. He said since I didn’t have insurance that he wouldn’t do one and prescribed me an over the counter acid reflux medication IN CASE it was that. He said if I had went to the ER then they would draw blood and do an EKG to make sure but they could write off the debt to the government, insinuating that I would not pay if he did anything to discover what was wrong with me. I tried to get the $85 from them since they had flat out refused to treat me and I could have used that money at the ER. The office manager said he didn’t have that authority but he would let Derek know and he would call me the next day. I didn’t hear from Derek and when I called back they said he wasn’t in and that frankly he wouldn’t give me my money back or do anything about it.They do not care about their patient’s health or patient satisfaction. They only care about money and that’s it."
