Reviews of Sugar Mountain Resort, Inc.
"my husband and I planned our very first weekend getaway from our 6 month old baby to go skiing and snowboarding. This was my first experience but my husband has been over 20 times several of which have been at Sugar Mountain. We arrived at the Sugar Mountain ticket center at 9am this past Saturday and were directed to park in lot 1 however it was full along with lots 2-5. A woman cussed my husband out for just doing what we were told. We then had to park in lot 6. It took over 2 hours to finally get on a bus and back to the ticket center. We arrived at the ticket center now after 11am. I needed rentals but my husband had his already. So we then proceeded to wait for over 3 WHOLE HOURS in line to get a pair of boots and skis. I was planning on getting a helmet but there were none and out my size boots! At 2pm, we both then paid for a half day (which started 2 hours ago) and for my rentals and his snowboard boots. By the time we got on the slopes it was 2:30pm and insanely crowed. We got to do one run on the green and one on the blue and then the day was over. We spent over 5 hours and $200 to ski and snow board for an hour and a half. This was the worst experience I've ever had and same for my husband. I emailed customer service for a refund but they said nothing could be done. Will not be coming back."
"We drove from the triangle to here and got in around 10:30am. There was no parking, no one helping out with finding a spot. We finally managed to get one all the way at bottom of the hill and had to take a shuttle bus back up. We needed to rent equipment and were in line for over 3 hours!! The inefficiency was baffling. It wasn’t because it was too crowded, it’s the poor infrastructure, design and staff. You can’t get a pass online or book equipment rental! At 2pm we were still in line, we’re not being helped by any staff and were expecting to wait atleast another hour in line because of how inefficient the rental process was! They close the slope at 4:30- so it really wasn’t worth spending 150 per person for barely an hour of skiing. The lines to the chair lifts looked unbearably long so we just left. I recommend not going here. If you do- rent your equipment at a shop elsewhere or bring your own. We are not going back here."
"I went on a snowy day when conditions were perfect and felt just like I was skiing out west. I have skied Park City Utah, Breckenridge, Vail, Big Sky so I know what skiing should be like and this was honestly so close to that this one particular day. It was -2 degrees so really no ice patches and it had just received 6 inches of snow the night before so it couldn't be any better! I did feel like they ran the snow blowers a little too much when there was already an abundance of snow but that's just my unprofessional opinion. Overall, great hills, great skiing, nothing to complain about at all for East Coast skiing. Make sure you go on a cold day right after a major snow."
"My girlfriend and I had an awesome time on the slopes over the weekend. We were blessed with a great day full of fresh powdery snow. We enjoyed tubing as well as skiing. The only problem was that so many people came to the resort for the great snow causing overwhelming crowds and lines that had us standing for 3 hours. A common conversation was how it compared to Disney land lines. The longest line was for the rentals. Once we got everything we needed to hit the slopes we only had 1 hour to ski until they closed the slopes down for maintenance. This was a bit of a bummer. The staff moved at a snails pace, but once we got outside it was great. All the staff working the lifts and the outdoor areas were great. We went upstairs to the bar to try and get a drink after we came back in, it was just too crowded. We had one drink and left."
"We always go at the busiest time of year: the week between Christmas and New Years. In order to make it work we always rent our ski gear at a third party rental place, the night before we plan to ski. This saves an enormous amount of time. Don’t go looking for great customer service, there won’t be any at Sugar Mountain. Go somewhere like Alpine ski rentals to get all your questions answered… yes even the ones about the ski slopes themselves and the ticketing/rental process at sugar. I wouldn’t bother with the ski school either, it’s not worth the effort it takes to actually get into a class during their busy season. They really aren’t that super helpful and everything they teach you can learn in a YouTube video. Watch the videos with your kids before you go and then find a spot to practice practice practice when you get there. You will have so much more fun and make great memories if you do that, and forgo the ski school. Just my two cents. :)"
