"I have already filed a formal complaint with the proper channels as my experience here was a clear and blatant HIPAA violation. I was waiting in my examination room when I hear (very loudly) the NP and the Physician discussing my personal situation in a COMMON AREA, with the other nurse who did her intial screening of me sitting at the nursing station. Discussing patients information at a nursing station? That is first semester basic nursing knowledge. I am a cardiac ICU nurse who works in the hospital system and know very much about patients rights and the laws that are in place to protect them and this place clearly does not respect that. The lack of professionalism from these medical professionals is beyond me. We, as medical professionals, will always face challenges we may be unfamiliar with, but we have the training and skill (well, we should) to properly respond to help our patients. Not throw are hands up and say " I don't do that". That attitude showed me I was in the wrong establishment for patient advocatation. If I can hear you in my room, then the other patients in their room can also hear you."
