"Absolute mess. Unprepared educators with not enough training and education. Unable to handle preteen, and puberty aged children especially boys. The majority of the staff is all women, and as someone who has studied behavioral psychology at an undergraduate level in MODERN TIMES understands the lack of reflection is evident. Another conservative mess that will just do the bare minimum to do the job and make it up on rigorous test scores to appear "progressive" by outdated education standards that falsely prop up the school on scores that are inflated(of course if you change and write the rules you would give yourself an advantage) Willing to suspend children just because they are allowed to legally(yeah if I had a dollar for everything that was once illegal or legal in this backwoods state) as if somehow hindering the child's education and holding them back from progressing through life at a crucial point of brain development and neuroplasticity is somehow "teaching them a lesson". Because that's what weak educators and administrators do. They leverage their ability to "punish". Obviously most of these people haven't kept up with modern standards and research or continued education, because it feels dated like most of them must have gotten their degrees 20-30 years ago. What's pathetic is these people spend more of the child's waking life with them than the parents but are unable to hold themselves accountable as educators and leaders and simply just want to pass the buck "because it's legal". This state leads in the highest suspension rate of disabled children from grade schools and one of the highest in overall corporal punishment and suspensions nationwide while boasting a measly C+ average and feeling good about that. I'm frankly aghast that such a prestigious school can't come up with better ideology than resorting to outdated suspension laws that fly in the face of modern education standards and scientific and behavioral research that is relevant. Imagine the MAJORITY of researchers and even the department of education believe suspensions are overused and ineffective and actually damaging to the development of children yet a "charter school " is willing to easily fall back on them. To the point where they are willing to damage children's development, and hinder the financial worklife balance of parents/guardians because the school doesn't want to accept responsibility for rushing into being understaffed, under equipped and just overall lacking in true effective and progressive de-escalation and behavioral coaching techniques. I could go on and on about this topic, as someone who was bullied myself in grade school and subsequently bullied by teachers who lavished in the fact they had the ability to deal out their terrible "punishments" I understand these topics all too well. The case study I have spent the last year building will hopefully push legislature that turns schools like this upside down and to force them to realize the impact they truly have on children and that every child matters just as much as the next. My short term advice. Please go back to school. Not just for your sake. But for the future of our species that you are holding in your hands the moment you signed up to be an educator and leader."
"I highly recommend this school due to the high quality of education and the dedicated, professional staff. The teachers, administration and parents all care deeply about achieving the best education for students."
"My third child goes to this school, this is his second year and we are very happy being here instead of the public school he would be going to in Gaston County. He is a very active 7 year old and this school offers PE and Recess every single day. Gaston county elementary schools don't offer daily PE. The culture at this school is very patient and caring - with students, parents and teachers/staff. We are so excited to see what is to come and to be in the new school this fall!!"
"My daughter has been attending this school since the first day they were open. In my own experience, I will say she has improved tremendously with her reading and math skills, also with her social skills. They really take the time and look at the kids as individuals and not as a group. She is getting the help she needs and I couldn't ask for a better school. I'm excited for the opening of the new building and I am a full supporter of this school. I like the feeling of not having to worry about her when she gets out of my car every morning because I know she is in good hands."
"Community Charter School has been a great experience for our child. We couldn't be happier with our decision to enroll our child at this amazing school. He has shown such growth in his learning, as well as his character over the past few years as a student of CCS. We love the staff and trust that our child is in great hands each and every day!"
