"I had a planned c-section and couldn’t be happier with the level of attention to detail and care I received. The cooperation between MAHEC and Mission Hospital was seamless with my care. I stayed 4 days at Mission Hospital and the nurses, doctors, and nutrition staff made our stay stress free. I have dietary restrictions and the nutrition staff catered to my needs. I never had any issues with the nurses and I absolutely loved them for helping us through tough situations. The doctors keep us up to date with any changes daily to our care. Thank you!"
"My grandfather was placed in ICU. My elderly grandmother refusing to leave his side is staying with him. ICU has a policy in place that does not allow her to use the restroom in the room he is staying. Now you can imagine the upset of an older woman being forced to leave her husbands side to walk down the long hallway out to the unisex restroom in the ICU waiting area. As an older woman with her on health issues she gets up multiple times a night to use the restroom. That’s not the worst part, they neglect the restroom that they force her to use. Tissue on the floor, overflowing trash bins, feces on the toilet and dead bugs under the sink that looks like roaches. I was there last night and took pictures when I was back this morning. Restrooms still not being touched."
"First the K 9th floor staff were wonderful taking care of my dying Mother. They deserve 10 stars! The care they provided went over and above! Then there was the financial dept. Minus 10 stars. Confronted me on day 3 of Mom’s stay. I was in a semi lit room, no TV on, reflecting on my Moms life. She was lying there struggling with every breath and in comes the finance dept. The representative came straight to me with no respect to the moment, no acknowledgement of Mom, just delivering her spread sheet on charges owed and potential charges if she were to stay a couple of more days. Offered me a discount if I would pay right now. Talking about unprofessional? I asked her to leave in an impolite way! That may have been her job. Sorry….Mission needs to teach their collection goons to read the room and send them to sensitivity training. Is Mission that desperate to grab the cash that they throw compassion out the window? Mom passed the next day! Mission please add this to the list of things that finally the State of NC is holding you accountable for. We all deserve better!"
"In 2018 (I know this is long overdue), I was in a horrific car accident that was a direct result of my own poor decisions to drink/do drugs and drive. When I awoke I did get ripped a new a-hole by the doctor who tried putting things in perspective to me as she also said she was genuinely surprised I wasn't handcuffed to the bed. As this wreck had been a failed attempted suicide, I was sent to the crisis unit and healed for 4 or 5 days there while attending groups and the such. I'm sure much of the staff has changed by now but I will never forget that despite being an addict, despite being wreckless, despite my absolute poor choices, the staff treated me with absolute respect. I was not talked to in any nasty way. I was treated as a human. The doctor who did my initial exam upon entering the unit was emapthetic as she stated she knew my broken ribs and bruises hurt. After that accident, it did take a couple of years of still trying to get sober for it to work. You'd think that would've been enough, no? Not for an addict. But I am grateful to say that thanks to the care of Mission Hospital, I am alive and very grateful to be. I am sober, I have been for years now and am grateful every day for the care that I received. I pray daily for blessings to pour among those who did not judge me based on my disease, but instead saw humanity and pain in me. Thank you, a hundred million times. As I can never thank those beautiful humans in person, I am spreading love and empathy around me instead as I believe that is what they would wish me to do."
"I had the most horrific experience at this hospital. Last Christmas Eve I fell and fractured 4 vertebrae in my neck. The day after Christmas I had emergency surgery where they put 2 rods and 10 screws in my neck. That actually was the good part. Now the horror begins! First, while was in ICU a couple days later a PA came into my room and informed my girlfriend that I had a brain bleed. Upon further investigation by my girlfriend she finds out oops they have the wrong person! Second, a day later a nurse comes into my room to install pressure socks on my legs to stop any blood clots. My girlfriend informs her that I had an ultrasound done on my legs and I had blood clots behind both knees. Oops wrong room, wrong person! Third as I watched a nurse remove an IV from my arm we both witnessed all kinds of puss oozing from my arm. I said to her that that doesn’t look very good. She reluctantly agreed. Next day I have infectious disease department in my room. Because of the concern of infection to the rods in my neck I now had to have a pick line put in my arm. This took 2 tries to install it properly. I now had to get via intravenous antibiotics for this infection they gave me. They use a special pump machine to administer the antibiotics and get this, 3 times a day for 30 days!!!! They still billed my insurance for all of this too! At this point I told my girlfriend if they don’t get me out of this hospital they are going to kill me! Thank God they got me moved to a local rehabilitation hospital near by after 2 more days. Now I realize Mission is the only trauma center in a 100 mile but if at all possible please don’t send your loved ones to this hospital"
