Green Swamp Preserve is a park and tourist attraction located at 673 Green Swamp Road Northwest in North Carolina, United States. Known for its carnivorous plants and beautiful orchids, the preserve spans over 13,000 acres of diverse landscapes including longleaf pine savannas and dense evergreen shrub bogs. Visitors can explore the many trails that wind through the preserve, offering a chance to see rare animals such as the American alligator and various species of birds and butterflies.
Managed by The Nature Conservancy, the Green Swamp Preserve undergoes controlled burning and restoration efforts to maintain its unique ecosystem. The landscape benefits from periodic fires, allowing plants like pond pine and wiregrass to thrive. The preserve was donated to The Nature Conservancy in the 1970s and has since expanded through additional land purchases.
Visitors can follow US 17 south to Supply, NC and then turn onto HWY 211 to reach the preserve. A well-marked trailhead offers a one-and-a-half-mile trail through the savannas, featuring red diamond markers and a boardwalk section. Late spring is a great time to visit to see the Venus flytraps in bloom.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a peaceful outdoor experience, Green Swamp Preserve offers a unique and educational destination for all ages.

"This is nice short walk with my dog. The trail isn't always easy to follow just because it's got a lot of growth on it and there's different paths all over but it was really nice. The only complaint I have is the bridge isn't really dog friendly. It's a metal grate and my dog wasn't too comfortable walking on it but there wasn't an option. A dog with small paws wouldn't be able to do it. It's December and a beautiful day, it would probably be too hot and buggy in the summer."
"A beautiful little walk that thrills you once wending through the forest-like path opening to fields where you are surprised at every turn discovering something new and stunning. Def. consider some bug spray as those carnivorous plants don't get them all and the Brunswick bird (mosquito) is bigger than any I've seen. Easy walk. Entrance isn't really marked off the road so pay attention to gps."
"There are no signs indicating where the entrance is located so make sure to use GPS to get there. Nice walking trail. Saw many venus flytraps but no pitcher plants. Make sure to bring insect repellent."
"Amazing hike with great nature views of the tall pine trees and the Venus Fly Traps in all their wonder and loveliness were in bloom or starting to bloom. I highly suggest if you find yourself in or around Holden Beach North Carolina to go to Green Swamp Preserve and take a hike to see for yourself."
"Very beautiful and unique preserve. The Venus fly traps and pitcher plants are there in abundance. It's very cool to see them in the wild. It's a very different environment with the tall pines and grasses and ferns carpeting the forest floor. If it has rained recently, be prepared to either get your feet wet or wear rubber boots."
