Reviews of Cliffside Lake Recreation Area
"Very Clean, Peaceful, the on-site staff is very friendly and is always ready to give tips on bait that the fish are biting on. There are plenty of picnic areas. Clean bathrooms, Plenty of places to fish, and a beach to swim at."
"This is a nice place, very close to Van Hook Glade campground. There is a trail that encircles the lake as well as the homestead trail that traverses some distance through the woods. Nice relatively easy hike. My patients (70s) like it because it's a relatively lightly traveled trail which makes them feel more comfortable from a COVID perspective."
"I give this place 2 stars, but only for the scenery around the "lake". The staff at this location was very aggressive about their $5 fee, which negates all of the beauty this place has to offer. We missed the self pay stand when we were coming in, as we were looking at our GPS (clearly, were not the only ones that missed this, as there are other Google reviews with similar complaints). We parked and walked along the lake (which I'd call more of a pond). We hopped back into the car to find Ranger Falls and had a man on a wheeler flag us down to let us know that he TICKETED us. We informed him that we didn't know, but we didn't have cash. I had to FORCEFULLY ask him how to avoid the $75 ticket, as he certainly didn't offer any suggestions after several times of me telling him we don't have cash. He sent us to Highlands to get cash. And you better have exact change, or you'll be paying more than $5 for your visit!! Ranger Falls was just OK. The Hike was NOT easy. It's very steep with lots of mud, rocks, and roots to contend with. The signage also made it seem like the hike was a lot shorter than what it was. We won't be returning to this area. Regardless of how dreamy the lake pond was. If the park replaces the staff in the future, we would definitely go back!"
"Cliffside lake is a beautiful place to spend a day with your family. The lake is small, there is a very small swim area, but you're not allowed to bring in tubes and toys and things like that because they'll get loose and get trapped in the lake. They're ducks and frogs and snakes and fish and hiking trails and a footpath that goes all the way around the lake including a part of it that traverses the bottom of the dam it's really quite spectacular in the winter time when ice freezes up. There's hiking trails that you can get on that go in all four directions away from the lake including one called rangers falls and then there are a couple of trails which circle around and go up to the top of the mountain offering views of the lake below. a lot of people fish at the lake but there are very few good fish in the lake. Each year the lake gets stocked with trout but it is quickly fished out usually by locals taking an obscene number of fish out of the lake. As far as I know they only stock the lake once a year with trout so unless you get there very soon after it is stockedbyou probably won't be able to catch a trout. I've included pictures of both the lake the restroom and the trailhead to ranger Falls. There is an access fee of $5 her car and there is no overnight camping or parking. The area opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. And there is a full-time camp manager on site."
"A great place to spend the day! It has something to offer everyone. Camping, several picnic areas and shelters, trails around the lake and a lot of nice spots for fishing. There's also a swimming area with a sandy beach and swings for the kids. The swimming area has clean indoor restrooms and changing areas."
