Reviews of Wilson Center for Nature Discovery
"Make sure you're able to walk up steep hills. This place is very nice! The animals looked healthy and happy. The Otter enclosure was full of actual trash when we went (from people throwing trash over the glass), but that's my only complaint."
"Nice place with lots of things to do for kids and adults. There is a mountain side zoo there with bears, elks, cougar, eagle, otter. And there are talks by the exhibits every half hour till 4 pm. There is a theatre running documentary about grandfather mountain that is nice to watch. There is a gift shop and also a restaurant there. Clean restrooms. I am sure there is a lot more that I didn't notice but it was a great stop while visiting the mountain"
"Very nice nature center with black bears ,otters, cougars, and elk. It is on the side of Grandfather Mountain, so we had to climb up and down the paved trails between the animal exhibits. They also have a nice visitor center with some educational displays. We ate lunch in their coffee shop with a nice view of the mountain."
"For $24 per adult for entry, even NC residents other than very local, this has got to be where the money is going. It's a mile high zoo and diner. Great experience! The crowds are small (at least if you go at like 9am-11am on a Saturday in late August like us), and the animals seem to have been having an absolute blast. The exhibits are small but lots of fun, and the kids have lots of fun things to play with and see. The food was great too at the diner there. And they have experts talk about and feed the animals in a cycle starting at 11am every half hour. Obviously a mountainside zoo is also quite unique too, see the photos, wow. Go check it out!"
"If you happen to be up on Grandfather Mountain this will be a wonderful place for you to stop at as it has been mentioned there are plenty of native animals to the region on exhibit here as well as a little Visitor Center showing you a lot of information on Grandfather Mountain you won't be disappointed if you decide to make this Pit Stop"
