Reviews of Clover Recreation Department
"This organization doesn't care about kids they care about making bucks. I feel sorry for the kids who get stuck playing here year after year and the parents who are duped into keep coming back. The skill level is so poor yet they dress up the league like it's the world cup. They care more about selling ice cream and picture day than they do about allowing the kids to actually practice and use the facilities. They don't give teams enough players to even practice. They have 8 year olds who have no idea how to play on giant goals playing 7v7. I care about the kids there to much to support this program another day. I hope the parents wise up and go some place else. Rock Hill has a developmental academy program - Charlotte Independence- that's way better for the same price, where they play small sided games with small goals provide training for coaches - it's not even that great - but at least they attempt to care about the kids there and don't lock up the goals from kids. Couldn't pay me to subject my children to this place. You want your kid to suck? this is your spot. But I in good conscious cannot support this place that essentially is robbing children of the opportunity to see their dreams fulfilled. We left in the middle of the season, I'm sure it's going to disappoint some but if it causes just one parent to come their senses and pull their child out of this dead end road, then it's worth being the bad guy. I was driving all the way from Spartanburg multiple times a week to be able to play up here and the director would just delete my practices off the schedule with no warning. We tried to use the small sided goals that no one uses and was told no. They penalize kids for playing good aggressive soccer and make kids who fall or trip sit on the bench, all they play is 100% kick ball, every single team, all you hear is boot it the entire game from parents and coaches. Absolutely bizarre. My daughter is disappointed and so am I, but I cannot encourage this any longer."
"When my grandkids were younger, we enjoyed the playground and trails. Now we are enjoying the soccer fields. The recreational program is well run, with beautiful fields for all age groups."
"First time visiting Field day park tonight for a recreation game. It is a very nice park. U16 team playing sideline to sideline instead of goal line to goal line. I know these kids are playing rec sports but it’s still very important to have refs(kids who probably play for a league in Clover) representing the sport and not their friends on the field causing a bad name for the park itself. The refs were calling everything on the visiting team, didn’t call a hand ball in the box by the home team, didn’t call an obvious body check foul(not shoulder to shoulder)in the box by the home team and called illegal throw ins on the visiting team but one defender on the home team clearly said in front of the ref he wont call an illegal throw on me and when it was called out that the defender was throwing in illegal throws on the side of their head, the ref(16-17 year old boy) went up beside the home player and told the player, trying to be secretive to make sure to throw it in over your head and didn’t call anything on the home team. Clover sports/refs needs to represent the sport not the organization by cheating."
"Director surprised me on how he became the director. Either apologizes with no action or answers your questions with another question that wouldn't be relevant to what is important. Acts understanding, doesn't truthfully understand. Positive side to balance it out, Josh is great handling baseball, softball, and basketball."
"Nice clean park with playground, horseshoe area, disc golf course, and baseball field. And they are just the things that I am familiar with. I'm sure they have more. I see people walking, riding bikes and skateboarding, and other such things as well. But I'm always happy with how calm the atmosphere is and how clean everything is, including the permanent porta potty. How many places can claim to have a clean porta potty, right. Oh they also have nice picnic areas for any kind of gathering you want to host there. Overall just a really nice park to take the kids to do."
