About Us
Located in Hickory, North Carolina, the Hickory Museum of Art is a must-visit tourist attraction for art enthusiasts. The museum's mission is to bring people together and inspire creativity through the power of art. Visitors can join as members to support the museum's goal of educating and transforming the community through visual arts.
One interesting aspect of the museum's history is the involvement of Kate and George's daughters, Norma and Josephine, in the family building business, a rare occurrence for the time. The support and promotion of the Bonniwell daughters by their father adds to the intrigue of the museum's background.
The museum's collection includes works by female artists, such as Shirley Pruden's The Aerialist, which was the first piece by a woman artist acquired by the museum. Additionally, visitors can admire Jef Raasch's sculpture, Manimal, which represents the symbiosis of life through the combination of various animal species native to North Carolina.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Hickory Museum of Art and immerse yourself in a world of creativity and inspiration.

"The best Art Museum in the northeast! Amazing exhibitions and a wonderful staff! An art museum for any age level! Fantastic art store as well! It is a true gem!"
"Place can be confusing at first to walk through if you have never been before. There are 2 separate buildings to go through and it's well worth the money. The art musuem is free with a donation box at the front of the building. There's a force's of motion portion for kids, and a building that has different types of animals and information. Great place for all ages but geared towards small kids."
"The art museum is right next to the science center, aquarium, and the library, planetarium, and other attractions, I was so surprised at how beautiful the art building inside is, and the fantastic art that they have acquired."
"Really enjoyed. Free but appreciates donations. In the same building as Catawba Science Centre. Very colorful exhibits. Interesting and unique."
"This is just a beautiful facility with so much natural lighting. The exhibits are well designed. As a mother of young children, I especially appreciate the multiple opportunities to respond to and create art throughout the museum. I can't believe it's free!"
