"They don't deserve 1 star. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced with a dental office. Communication is horrible with the treatment coordinator in this office. I called several times trying to get a procedure schedule and every time I called the coordinator was either busy, away or at lunch and she never called me back. I then called the office again and asked for the manager because I wanted to let her know how I have not been able to reach my coordinator to schedule a procedure and she never called me back. I think they told me her name was Ashley who was the manager for the treatment coordinators. Just terrible customer service! So then the coordinator decides to send me my treatment plan after I asked for the manager and she sends me another patients info to my email, very unprofessional and she violated HIPPA! After my several calls she finally decides to call me back yesterday and say oh is there anything I can help you with and I'm like are you serious? I told her no thank you all I want for you to do is send my xrays and records to another dental office because I don't want to see anyone in that office now. Then she proceeds to ask why and offered a discount and then this was the topping of the cake she asked me was it because I didn't have the money. First all how dare she ask me a question like that if I have been trying to get the procedure scheduled. That was it for me!!! I would suggest no one go to this office if you want good care!!!!"
"Being referred as a new patient, you never know what to expect, you hope for the best, which is what I received. Upon entering the receptionist and staff are friendly and helpful. I was very at ease while waiting to be seen. Words can't express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Valentine for his professionalism, kindness, and support shown in my time of need. I highly recommend! "He made my life a little bit better.""
"UPDATE: On June 23rd, they said it would take 5-7 weeks for claims to go through. It's now the beginning of September, and I have not been reimbursed, and have not been contacted by the office. I just reached out to my insurance, who STILL has no record of claims. From the date of my appointment till now, this has been a 13 week process without any outcome. The whole experience with Tar Heel Perio has been incredibly frustrating. So many errors across the board. My purpose in visiting was to make sure I didn't have an infection after a tooth extraction. Even though I provided recent x-rays from my dentist, they insisted I get more x-rays from their office and told me they'd be free, but actually charged me (I had to call several times, and eventually they refunded me). Dr. Valentine gave me much alarm and rushed for a CT scan for a separate issue that very afternoon because of something "unusual, unique, and concerning" from the x-rays, and told me he'd call within a few minutes to give me results. After thinking something was desperately wrong and needing immediate attention, I didn't receive a call from his office until very late the next day (from his assistant, not him, who gave very little follow up information). They brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal, and I left with more questions than answers, and a face flushed from all the radiation and scans. My questions weren't taken seriously and took multiple calls for someone to finally call me back. Spoiler: my dentist looked over the scans and said they overreacted and had no cause to raise the concerns and anxiety they did. Regarding their billing department: I initially paid out of pocket, and they told me I'd be reimbursed within 7-10 business days, presumably after filing my claims with my insurance. 4 weeks later, my dental insurance has no record of claims. Only because I reached out and called *yet again*, they finally filled my claims today, and said it will be an additional 5-7 weeks until reimbursement. I was expecting this visit to cost $138, but was charged initially around $600-700. Big inconvenience. In short, I feel like they swindled me for unnecessary scans and money, delayed responses on multiple occasions, they caused me much unnecessary anxiety thinking something was terribly wrong for something that is quite common, and were incredibly misleading about reimbursement. This was all with little concern from them, little to no apologies, and me feeling like I was inconveniencing them for their errors. My own dentist was baffled and backed my concerns about them after looking over the scans and seeing the amount of money I paid. I will never go back to this office."
"What an absolute joke. Steer clear of this practice. Working with their insurance department has been my WORST experience working with any medical practice. I still haven't received my insurance reimbursement after 3 months (and I'm still in the dark as to when this will process and get submitted correctly). It seems nobody is being held accountable. They pass on the responsibility to a different person each time. I have had to probe and prod and poke at least 20+ times since my surgery 3 months ago to get updates on insurance. First, the doctor wasn't credentialed with my insurance (Red Flag #1) - so there was a delay. Why wasn't this relayed to me FIRST before collecting my payment? Why couldn't you have been honest about the TRUE timeline for reimbursement considering that the doctor wasn't credentialed? Second, false promises (Red Flag #2) - "just a few more weeks"/"just a few more days"/"this will be finalized on Friday"/"the claim will be mailed out on Monday" - only for nothing to materialize. Then, leaving the customer in the dark (Red Flag #3) - no communication from them at all whatsoever. Each time, I HAVE HAD to call and figure out what on Earth is going on - complete negligent behavior, almost as if they're trying to avoid the problem. Then, incorrectly submitting the claims (Red Flag #4), which delays the process even more. Not good when you've ALREADY messed up and are treading a fine line. Where's the attention to detail? Surgery was good, no complaints, doctor was pleasant and skilled, but everything else has been totally unprofessional and negligent. But your business is as good as your weakest link, and this practice's insurance department is as weak as weak can be. I NEVER leave a bad review. In fact, I've given this practice MULTIPLE opportunities to make things right as sometimes "stuff happens" - even the best businesses mess up, but these guys just don't care. I'm totally done and tired out dealing with these folks. My energy and attention is better spent elsewhere on more productive activities."
"I was sent here by my dentist for a consultation to discuss possible gum grafts. When I made the appointment I specifically asked if there would be any charges for the consultation. I was told there would be no charges, however, at the end of my appointment when I found out the treatment they were proposing would not be covered by my insurance and that I could not afford to pay for it out of pocket, they tried to charge me $450.00 for the appointment. When I reminded them that I had been told there would be no charge they reluctantly agreed. I thought that was the end of it, until 8 months later I got a bill in the mail for $450.00!"
