"Best coffee shop in triangle for getting high quality freshly roasted coffee beans. They buy from small producers around the world ,but mainly central and South America"
"Decent local independent coffee roaster that resells its beans in various locations. They do a decent job making drinks at the Open Eye Cafe, which is the retail location for the roasters. It's a pretty busy place, but they manage to take care of customers pretty quickly."
"CC Roasters not only has the best coffee, they also have the best service! I was gone for a week and came back to a low supply of beans. I put in my order with a note that "sooner is better" and they delivered the beans later the same day. He said, "We had the beans roasted and you needed them, so here we are!" I never expected that, but I appreciate the thoughtful effort."
"Full disclosure, the owner of Carrboro Coffee Roasters and I have been best friends for thirty-five years; however, I have neither temerity to post BS nor the time. This is an honest post borne out of respect for quality. I like coffee. I drink it every day (in the past thirty-two years I've not had coffee less than five days). Most days I meander/stumble downstairs in the morning in search of happiness/joy in the form of a wonderful cup of coffee. I alternate between drip, pour over, and french press. What I don't vary is the brand of coffee I drink. For the past decade or so I've only drunk Carrboro Coffee Roasters coffee. I've drunk pretty much every "Direct relationship" coffee they've offered (a favorite is Finca El Balam). I relish the opportunity to try the different "Cup of Excellence" selections and each year I look forward to the winter/holiday blend (I give bags out as Christmas gifts). My favorite coffee is the Piedmont Blend which makes a great espresso, but more importantly is a fantastic daily drinking coffee. Sort of like finding your favorite gin or bourbon. Once you drink it a few times it becomes your "go to". What separates the Carrboro Coffee Roasters from the vast majority of coffee roasting businesses is that Scott Conary, the coffee buyer, cares 100% about the holistic process of coffee from the soil to the liquid we drink. I've heard of and seen many accounts of owners who are "committed to the sustainability of coffee". They travel to coffee growing countries and have scrapbooks of their exploits during their trips in their shops. I think this is great. These people are committed. Now, ratchet that commitment up exponentially and you get to the level Scott works at every day. He is too modest to discuss his work with the farmers, with governments, and with various trade organizations in the coffee industry first-hand, but please trust me it's legitimate. I could go on and on about the care Scott invests in his various coffee related businesses. Suffice it to say, Scott is a true expert in the world of coffee. Unheralded definitely, but I don't need to see my coffee experts on TV (although he has been) to know whether their coffee is top-notch. After 35 years of coffee drinking I think I can figure that out for myself. And for my palate (which is discriminating but not fancy) Carrboro Coffee Roasters coffee is consistently the best. I 100% recommend it."
"I signed up for a coffee class that was cancelled at the last minute due to my instructor being sick. So, why is this a 5-star review?! Enter: Mystique (I hope I've spelled her name right). She couldn't do the 3-hour class, but she wanted to make things right. I traveled 30 miles to come to the class and my co-worker came a distance, too. Mystique offered to allow us to go back to the tasting area and she'd personally spend an hour with us tasting various coffees, talking about them, reading about coffee qualities, and so forth. She turned a frown around and made us smile. Yes, on top of this our class fee was entirely refunded. But, they wanted to offer exceptional service to us and Mystique did and Carrboro Coffee should be exceptionally proud. We all understand that things can happen to upset plans. And, graciousness begs us to forgive these things. But, when people like Mystique go out of their way to do the right thing, loyalty is won. Yup, they won my heart, not to mention my mouth! Yummy!"
