"Truly the worst bbq plate I ever ate. Ordered the chopped brisket, mac & cheese, collards and hush puppies. The brisket is bland, watery and smells old. The sweet bbq sauce helps but cannot overcome the lack of seasoning and lack of smoke flavor in the meat. The texture is almost like a purée rather than chopped. The mac & cheese is bland and watery- worst than store bought box preparation. The collards are the most disappointing. Again, so bland, lacking acid, sweet and salt balance. They are also rough texture- not cooked long enough. The hush puppies would have been the only edible part of the dish but they were stale. I recommend this establishment bake your mac & cheese and use a bit of real cheddar. Cook your collards with a meat bone or with meat fat, add some vinegar, sugar and way more salt- also cut the leaves smaller. And the brisket… there is no hope for your brisket preparation. It smells like death and looks like it too. This may seem harsh but it’s an honest review."
"Amazing food. I got the brisket sandwich, I would have posted the food but ate it too fast. Food was delicious and well made. Even the side coleslaw and hush puppies were delicious and I don’t usually like those. Service was fast, we got our food within a minute after ordering. Small business type, definitely support if you’re in the area. I got a few bbq sauces to go and would definitely come back if I’m ever in the area."
"This was absolutely the best BBQ that I have had in ages! Only my pastor makes better brisket! This sliced brisket is lean and smoky! The BBQ baked beans are fantastic. Coleslaw is homemade. Order at counter from friendly staff."
"Could not be better. Brisket, baked beans, and cole slaw were so fabulous! Terrific recipes. I don't give many 5-Star reviews any more unless the place exceeds expectations. This did."
"Had a stop in lunch at Phil's while traveling. First time having that NC-style BBQ. It's different than other BBQ sauces I have had. It's very thin. I liked their classic red. When they say shredded, they mean it. It was finely shredded! We also had fries and fried okra, both were good. Also, the hush-puppies were outstanding! I wish I had gotten an order of them to go! I recommend a stop by Phil's if your passing through. Nice lunch."
