"My 76 year old sister went to AAP to have her alternator and battery checked. The big guy there tested and determined she should have her alternator replaced for 490 dollars, AND her battery replaced for an additional amount. He also told her he could replace all of it for a fee after his working hours. So, she went next door and they determined there was nothing wrong with either of them, just cleaned the battery terminals at no charge. She went back to Advance to speak with the manager, and the people there gave her vague answers as to when the store manager would be in and would not reveal his name. Apparently, this goes on quite a bit at this store from conversations with others not to be named. Is AAP responsible for the side-jobs these guys generate? Is AAP responsible for these people selling parts that are not needed? Is AAP responsible for wilfully taking advantage of an elderly woman in need just because they CAN? I recommended she go to AAP, and I have been a lifelong AAP customer; I trusted them to do the right thing with my sister and expect any other customer walking in the door to be treated honestly and fairly. This must be corrected by local and national management so anyone relying on AAP for good parts to be confident in getting AAP's best, not shady dealings from their employees."
"Great service from paint guy. Was confused when I got there and asked if I was in right place as i was looking for carquest and GPS took me to advance auto. Employee that I spoke to pointed at his shirt which stated carquest and directed me to paint guy. I guess the days of great customer service are disappearing."
"The service is pretty poor at this location. I walked in with two small children. There were four employees in this store, one of them on the phone and of them helping another customer. Not once the whole time I was in there did anybody ask me if I needed any help, and I was there for a while. Eventually took the item I thought I needed and asked the fellow on the phone as soon as he hung up if this would work. Then in a very unenthusiastic manner he told me I needed a stronger version of what I had and handed me a different one. Not once did he say thank you for coming in have a nice day or anything. I totally would recommend going somewhere like Advance or AutoZone over Carquest. In my opinion personality and kindness go further than anything."
"When i walked into the store to pick up a car battery that I paid for online, the store was kind of dark inside, and none of the employees were particularly friendly, alert, or eager to help. . The worst offender was the employee that "helped" me. He was in no hurry, and was actually looked put out when I explained why I was there. After finally getting the battery, we headed out to my car. I had already popped the hood, but the employee told me to pop my trunk. Huh? "Why? Aren't you going to install it?". "We don't install batteries" he replied. When I said "I don't know how to install a battery" the employee's reply was: "Well neither do I!'. "What should I do?" I asked before he could retreat back into the store. I was told that I had to go to Advance Auto about a mile away. No apology for my inconvenience. When I walked into Advance, the atmosphere was the exact opposite of what I experienced at Carquest. The store was brightly lit, the employees were friendly, eager to help, and communicated with me. I did have to wait for them to figure out why Carquest couldn't install the battery that I bought from them. Once that was done,. the employee carefully installed my battery, and then he asked me to open my trunk to put the old one in. Why? I should be getting my core refund. Advance couldn't give me my core charge back because I had bought the battery from Carquest (despite the fact that Advance took over Carquest? ). I said OK I'll head there now,, but was told that they were already closed for the day (7 PM), and I would have to come back another day to return the battery and get my core charge back. The Carquest on CB was a total waste of my time. The lackadaisical attitude of the employees in inconsistent with my previous experiences with Advance. If I didn't have to go back to get my core charge (it's the one closest to me), I would never set foot in that store again."
