About the Business
The Humane Society's Mountain Shelter Thrift Store, located at 125 Wellborn Street in Blairsville, Georgia, is a store dedicated to supporting the life-saving mission of the Mountain Shelter. By shopping at our store, you are directly contributing to the care and well-being of unwanted and homeless animals in Towns and Union counties. We offer a variety of items for sale, and 100% of our profits go towards helping animals in need.
If you are considering adopting a cat from the Mountain Shelter, please remember to bring a small animal carrier. We also have carriers available for purchase at the time of adoption. For dog adoptions, please bring a collar and leash, which are also available for purchase at the shelter.
In addition to our thrift store, we work closely with other animal care facilities and organizations, such as Mountain Emergency Animal Center, Big Bear Veterinary Clinic, and Union County Animal Control, to ensure the well-being of animals in our community.
We encourage you to consider making a monthly or one-time donation to support our cause. As Anatole France once said, "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened." Together, we can make a difference in the lives of animals in need.

"I used to love this store but the prices have gone way up and the quality of what you’re buying isn’t worth it. When an item that is used and in very clearly used condition is $3 that you can get brand new for $4, I’m going to go with the new one. I’ve seen some things that are priced the same Or even more than what they are at the actual store! Thrift stores used to be about helping the less fortunate. Now it just feels like a cash grab. But no matter what, as long as people are still coming, losing some customers won’t matter. When I said “oh wow! That’s a lot of money for used Childrens pants and two paperback books,” the woman just looked at me like I was ridiculous. Sadly, my kids and I will be taking our business elsewhere from now on. I wish people understood that sometimes lowering prices on stuff they were given for FREE would actually bring in more money to help the animals than upping prices. On the plus side, they have cleaned it up a lot and that’s great but charging outrageous prices on some stuff that is literal junk is going to keep us from coming back."
"This place is awesome! Great deals, friendly staff. Pretty much anything you could possibly look for. Some stuff you never knew you needed. New stuff hits the shelves daily! I love shopping here."
"The manager Ed and his wonderful staff work so hard to provide affordable items for the local community members to purchase. They always have an influx of new items in so you can go weekly if you want. The other customers are always nice and pleasant which makes for a great shopping environment. Don't forget the furniture and big item building beside/below the main building! And if you have donations, please don't hesitate to bring it in to them. Great store!"
"This is the cleanest, best curated, and most well displayed thrift shop I have EVER been in. The layout and displays are beautiful and tidy. The prices cannot be beat. And it is all for a good cause. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who will listen!"
"Great little place, with lots of great finds! TONS of books, lots of clothes, also toys/games. And of course low prices. All to support a good cause!"
