"Love stopping here when traveling up 77 back to Virginia. Just a couple miles off highway and a great setting if you are a sports fan as I am. Pizza is always awesome and they have a wide variety of very good beers too."
"(4.5 stars) Angry Troll is essentially Foothills in the actual foothills in that it’s a spacious brewpub offering a solid lineup of taps and better-than-average bar food. It’s housed in a historic brick building with plenty of room. Despite the size, Angry Troll does keep busy, especially on game days, which can lead to a (thankfully not unreasonable) wait. The menu here is about what you’d expect: fried apps, wings, nachos, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and pizzas. Add to that eight in-house beers (plus others available in bottles/cans), and you’ll likely find something that you like. Our personable and hard-working server, Virginia, was kind enough to offer a few suggestions. It is in the quality of the food where Angry Troll stands apart. Fried pickles were cut into thin chips perfect for dipping. A BBQ chicken sandwich offered tender meat, lots of cheese, crispy bacon, and a slathering of aptly-named Sweet Heat sauce. It was a beast to eat, but it was worth every messy bite. My wife opted for a Southern Comfort burger featuring local beef, house-made pimento, and an onion ring, and it too proved tasty and satisfying. Prices are moderate (burgers and sandwiches clock in at $9-$10 without sides), and the ambiance is casual. It’s a lively atmosphere with TVs everywhere, but it doesn’t get headache-inducingly loud. All told, Angry Troll delivers well-executed food in a laid-back setting. It’s well worth a stop if you’re out Elkin way."
"What a treat! We popped in on a busy Saturday night and didn't have to wait for a table. Service was quick and the pizza was tasty! We went downstairs and found pool tables and a live band! I felt bad because no one was really listening to them. Maybe the band needs to be upstairs? The hidden gem down here was the bar! I ordered a basil cocktail and the bartender pulled a basil leaf off a plant for my drink! Talk about fresh! I was impressed!"
"We diverted off the freeway to come here for dinner and are glad we did. Beer and food was good. My son had the Godfather sandwich and really enjoyed it. It was very substantial! The wings were huge and very flavorful. We ate downstairs in the very dark bar area but are grateful that we could bring our dog in with us so thank you for being dog friendly! Worthy of a stop! Elkin looks like a cute town!"
"The atmosphere was loud but very comfortable, not uptight. The bar area was full but we ate at a table with about 5 min wait. We got burgers and pizza and the pretzel for appetizer. Everything great with no complaints. Beer was good and service fast and efficient. We would definitely eat here again."
