"TKL doctor at Fairlawn, NJ needs to be trained in cultural competence. I signed up to participate in a hair loss study with TKL in Fairlawn, NJ. I completed the initial assessment and got approved for the study. I was told my hair needed to be a certain length which I complied with, but on the day of study, I was told they couldn't use me because my hair was too coil. Well, the doctor's words were really, and I quote, "you have the worst hair for this study." When I did the initial assessment, the coordinator only said I needed to cut my hair down a little more, which I did and even cut it a little shorter than what they asked for, but the day of the study, the doctor had an issue with my hair texture and how coil it is. I asked why they didn't inform me at the initial assessment that they were looking for a specific hair texture, but they couldn't give me a valid answer. I asked to be compensated for the day because I did everything they asked, and they didn't state my hair texture was an issue during the initial assessment, but the coordinator said he was not sure if I would be fully compensation. I was HIGHLY OFFENDED  BY THE DOCTOR COMMENT AND HIS LACK OF CULTURAL COMPETENCE. Despite the doctor's ignorancy, the nurse was very friendly and agreed that the study should have provided more specific information what hair texture they were looking for."

"Some of the TKL are very sweet and professional. Good food and clean environment.There's others working at TKL who desparately need good bedside manners, less attitude and more effectiveness. I just finished a study (October) Olga's personality is terrible. Olga lacks skills of an employee who works in the health industry. She doesn't treat volunteers with respect."

"I started doing a new study today. Look forward to it. Receptionist was a nice lady who took care of me and asked me for identification to give me paperwork to fill out. After which I was taken back to the room where they went over my information and we started the study."
